Topics regarding layoffs at Cengage

Have you heard?

When will layoffs begin? Why was the NES pushed out to February?

Smarmy response from MH to an honest Glassdoor review

"Thank you for your service during the past 5+ years. I agree, we do have many extremely passionate people who work at Cengage and do amazing things for students, globally, every day. As we continue to make changes to transform our company and... — read more

Will I be spared?

I am a good and loyal Cengage employee. I choose a smaller salary because I want to save students money and improve their outcomes. I live and breathe the Credo. I put work in during nights and weekends because my team has shrunk. I am passionate... — read more

Glassdoor

From a review... "Employees are "encouraged" to give good reviews to balance out the bad, especially just before CEO is announced as Glassdoor's Employees' Choice Award and being named Best Places to Work. Both are far from accurate."

No layoffs at Cengage?

Layoffs are uncommon at Cengage!?! Completely false. Endless layoffs have been the norm at Cengage ever since Hansen took over. He is the angel of death.

Q1 Earnings a Disaster

Q1 earnings were a disaster as predicted. Dig through all the nonsense in the earnings call deck and you'll find the company lost $65 million for the quarter. Far more alarming is the amount of cash Cengage is burning through. The company has $170... — read more

Cengage will end up being a shell of what it is now

Cengage has some great content but the problem is the online platforms are kind of stuck in 2005. SAM was always a cash cow because it did what it did better than anything else at the time and back when it started most of the A+/MCSE post recession... — read more

Q1 Earnings Call Scheduled for 8/7

I wonder what litany of excuses Michael will use to explain away what is sure to be yet another money losing quarter? Timing of purchases? Shift to digital? Piracy? Declining enrollment? But don't worry children, Cengage Unlimited is an unqualified... — read more

From a recent Glasdoor review

"The payscale has absolutely no transparency (even my supervisor doesn’t know what the pay range of my position is, let alone me), and raises, which have been capped at 1% a year for at least the last five years, were cut to 0.5% this year. (2019)... — read more

Cengage Author fallout

I know it's been super tight lipped lately. Has anyone seen fallout from authors experiencing revenue drop from CU implementation?

Severance is not a guarantee!

I've been at this a long time, trust me these companies don't have to offer any severance, in fact most likely you will not see a severance since this isn't a simple layoff, this is classified as a merger. Nowhere in any labor law does it state... — read more

Far and Wide

Ever notice how on any digital platform, even here anyone getting anywhere remotely to the truth will always have the post deleted. The grasp of this c u l t of c en g ag e is spread throughout like a cancer. Good riddance when it finally implodes.

Talked to some of my former Cengage colleagues, and they all seem to believe they’re protected from job losses due to the fact that MH will be running the combined entity. Is this the general sentiment? It seems shockingly naive to me given what the... — read more

The real motivation behind the merger

MH can't get paid if his stock keeps declining in value. From the FY19 annual report: "We adopted an equity incentive plan (the “2014 Equity Incentive Plan”) for certain employees, officers and directors of Cengage, as approved by the Bankruptcy... — read more

FY2019 earnings

FY 2019 earnings are a disaster. Dig deep into the report and you’ll find a net loss of $97 million. Yet CU was a success!? The scary part is we haven’t seen the bottom of the market yet....not even close.

Q2 Not Looking Good

Let's hope things pick up in the next couple weeks. Lots of eyes on how things look so far. Anyone else bracing for a pre Q3 reorg?
