What is up with all the very senior deadwood?

In my discipline in the main office there are many technical staff in senior grades which can barely keep up with times. Just poor technical skills and no subject depth. It seems it's a purely union shop? Years in the industry define your grade, no... — read more

Office work and job security

Personally, coming to the office does not give me any illusion that my job is safer than not coming to the office. Why do some think that coming to the office makes their job more secure from offshoring?
