You might have a very good case to negotiate a good package or take other legal/administrative actions if you are getting laid off while retailing H1b for doing same job.

Regardless how good his/her performance, Engineers who are not related (friend, family) with managers shall be laid off. That's how they play the game. No question to ask heeeeee
