The ship is sinking

The rats are leaving the ship. Is it time to evacuate before all life jackets and life boats are taken? Titanic did not have enough life boat and thousand perished. This is the metaphor.

New job postings

I doubt the layoff is going to be as grim as this toxic site suggests. California just posted 4 new positions as of today. Boulder still has 4 outstanding positions, one of which CANNOT be moved to any other location (as per the job desc.)

How a peon thinks, versus a top level Exec...

The LIST

If I'm on the "list" will my supervisor know about it before I do?

Overall 22% cut, in some divisions up to 50%.

Promised 1billion savings to share holders is not easy to met unless deep cut in staff. Another lay off may be planned sooner after nxp acquisition. Be prepared for turbulence in 2018 and 2019.

20%

Some critical groups exempted. Blame your board. At least some semiconductor companies are hiring.

Not knowing is the worst

Isn't it fun not being able to sleep on the weekend and instead repeatedly checking a page on layoffs to see if there is any news? Good times. I wish those in charge would just make a decision and tell us who will be affected. Honestly, how many of... — read more

Unusual week

On a a scale of one to hostile takeover, how do you rate this week at Qualcomm? I'll be honest, I'm a little bit disappointed. There wasn't nearly enough drama. No attempts of takeover, our attempt at a takeover is hanging in the air, nobody was... — read more

The board did very well

Testing is not respected at Qualcomm.

Testing is not respected at Qualcomm. Our costumes are OEMs and ODMs who live to find our bugs for us. And we have a large CE team. But it should not be like this. At Microsoft, for instance, testing is as important as development.

Why need build, integration , tests teams in US sites ?

In name of build, integration , testing many saving their a##. They don't have any technical contribution but have big teams. Better to close such teams and move all work to low cost center. Save good technical people who can really save QCOM.
