@18vuk+16zEvLP3 I am also worried and guilty of some luxurious upgrading during last couple of years. Luckily my spouse is not in the same industry and we can still support the family. I hope you have sufficient savings to temporarily nail through if happens. Upcoming singapore layoff will be very sneaky, selective and likely come as a silent surprise. We just need to more careful and prepared.
Don’t forget about the 1600 U.S. employees recently separated for “performance” reasons, which was really just a layoff in disguise. So, the U.S. employee cuts are actually 3500. That’s about 19% of U.S. above field employees (ie. excludes field Operations employees which are out of scope for cuts).
My spouse is a homemaker, so I really hope that I will not be retrenched.
Looking at the recent layoffs: Australia knocked off 20% of their overall headcount from voluntary retirements, then another 1600 will get booted from Europe and more recently, 1900 from the US.

Nothing they can do now but HOPE for higher oil prices and Pray that they are not screwed further.. but Darren told us.. he needs to help Grandma.. living off our dividends.. lol.. he benefits from it too. Yes. Do not over invest in where you work. For goodness sake both spouses must not be in same company (common sense)! I know of bosses and management so proud of owning plenty of XOM shares. Now looking at their faces in zoom and back at work (laughing underneath 50% poorer, need to hold perpetually calling it long term?)

I am a mid-career EM local employee, looking for another job - as a preemptive measure, before the bigger layoff is announced (soon), or by next year’s PA, where more NSIs - dropped from this year’s Good & NIs, will be asked to go.
Currently drawing a salary of >$10K/mth - average for many mid-career folks, but the PMTE job offers available now in the SG market, go for $4-6K/mth only (with experience).
So how?
With 50% of my current salary, I can’t even support my mortgage and car loan payments, not to mention my family’s subsistence needs!
If I choose not to jump ship now, I am quite sure that I’d be asked to go before mid-2021.

ExxonMobil said on Thursday that the company, as other oil producers, would be cutting costs due to a collapse in oil demand and badly timed new projects. The top U.S. oil company earlier outlined more than $10 billion in budget cuts this year.
“The impact of Covid-19 on the demand for ExxonMobil’s products has increased the urgency of the ongoing efficiency work,” the company told Reuters.
ExxonMobil spokesman Casey Norton said that an estimated 14,000 employees globally, or 15 per cent, could lose jobs – including contractors.

Singapore, mere unfortunate PIP/PIL batches took place ahead of the completion of “ resource study plan”. Management not emphatic to employee who have contributed regardless of their years of service and concealed the ultimate intentions. The choice is in our hands, we landed into a $cum lead company, keep our chins up, stay strong and move on, no point dwell in such toxic workplace, by the I was impacted within age 50-60s and have concluded life can still goes on without EM, no more migraine, Tummy cramp etc...
