On 8/3/2026 PG&E canned all of their most seasoned on-prem IT professionals because they want to move everything to Azure and AWS despite the fact that it costs significantly more. The rest of their IT work is being given to India based IT companies. They froze all people leader (management) and principal positions claiming management bloat but primarily targeting the front line senior contributor IT positions. Literally everyone canned on 8/3 was 50+ and had years of infrastructure experience. Virtually everyone canned on 8/3 was a subject matter expert supporting on-prem infrastructure. Everyone was offered a severance package of 3 weeks for every year worked to a maximum of 52 weeks and given a lump sum for health insurance cobra conversions. Those who are eligible were sent retirement packages. All were placed in a 60 day "redeployment pool" where they collect their regular pay while looking for another job internal or external to the company. Layoffs and restructuring will continue throuhout the rest of 2026 but fear not, favored senior managers with zero or one report are being excepted rather than targeted.

Seems like another round of a good bid from infosys and the 2 competing cloud companies. All of IT except for netword an security will be gone. Next will be the project managers and engineering. I feel for the people who have 20 years plus bot not at retirement age. I heard it was a thankyou and here is the hr rep.
@10a5 Agreed! We are waiting around to hear the fate of our teams too. This was truly done poorly without proper consideration or better planning!
There were tech layoffs yesterday, 08/03/2026. After watching years of hard work vanish in a five-minute layoff call, I'm left questioning the concept of workplace loyalty. We give our all to companies, but at the end of the day, do we matter to them as people? Our families bear the weight of these sudden decisions. More layoffs till the end of the year.
