Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

Can we have layoffs that for once target the right people?

Why is it always the older, experienced, and high performing employees are shown the door? We have plenty of those who do nothing all day and yet they stay. Why? How come that keeps happening?

Only some experienced folks are paid so much more at TI. TI model is 70% NCG 30% experienced, selected through a political tech ladder process which is somewhat better than having no filter at all. Avg age ~low 30s, rotating up to plm ~30-35, decided in ~18mo after joining. H1B preferred as virtual lock for ~5yrs for chinese, ~10yrs for indian. Lartest policies seem to accelerate the already significant trend of offshoring to bangalore due to board pressure (no indians on the board, mind you).

Who you know in TI is more important than what you do and how competent you are. Ti expects you to cut your retirement cake between the ages of 45--50yrs. This has been true for decades with Morris Chang (founder of TSMC) being one example. The SI labs folks will experience this.

Because our leadership doesn’t consider long term strategic workforce planning. They are solely looking near term and at the bottom line.

When you’re only worried about making the numbers look good for investors, concern for the amount of knowledge being lost and in what volume, completely goes out the window. TI has always been naive in wanting keep everything “in house” so if you think they are hiring anyone with any expertise to help strike the right balance when it comes to workforce planning, think again. Same echo chamber at the top making the same short-sighted decisions.

@ax doesn't make sense if they are contributing different amounts. It's taken NCGs 1-2 years to be start contributing significantly. And that's still nothing compared to seniors

pay. The experienced folks are paid so much more than the NCG are, so reduce costs by removing those who are keeping the products moving. Makes sense . And less dollars
