Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

I've never worked somewhere that felt so isolating

One of the biggest surprises here has been how disconnected everything feels. There's very little collaboration, almost no coaching, and it's easy to go long stretches without hearing from leadership unless there's a problem. Is this just me? Did I get really unlucky?

Nobody is describing a product roadmap. Everyone talking about the toxic work environment and describing the cost program. Which reflects the ELT is trying to mange decline efficiently rather than finding its second act. The post-Mark B identity crisis: divest, buy back stock, make small defensible bolt-ons, and hope the AI narrative sticks before the next earnings call tests it and ignore employee sentiment.

@bb This is very accurate and good coaching for the 20s 30s and 40s folks. One add...no matter what age, always be striving for better. I couldn't stay at this place..the ELT is the worst ive seen in years..totally disconnected and the place is falling apart. The SKO was a joke and glad I left early..had an offer come in and I bailed..the Blue Jay's game was great. I couldn't listen to any more of that nonsense. I could have sat around for 2 more quarters and no matter what I did would never have sold a thing. I was slotted as an overlay with 3x quota. Not even achievable, no thanks, no more I digress bs, see ya...on to a great role..oh and who cares about soccer...game for fa----s..on to sell and lots of it...they are going to sell this place in parts..get out youngins

Another snowflake, get used to the world today. Be self sufficient and paddle your own canoe.

@bg I'm tired of OTEX too, but I have certainly worked in worse circumstances. What is most discouraging is that management teases with what you might be able to achieve through personal and career growth, then shoots you down when you want it to happen.

At one point I would have happily recommended OT to friends and past colleagues, but that time has passed.

@OP Unfortunately, everyone’s mantra seems to be, “It’s not part of my responsibilities,” resulting in an endless game of ping-pong between teams. Very few people are willing to step up and help, even when doing so would clearly benefit OT’s clients.

This attitude seems especially common among some heritage OT employees who simply could not give a flip about anyone outside their own little corner. That said, there are still plenty of good people out there.

When someone asks for help, at least try. When you cannot help, point them toward someone who can. OT is a massive company, so building a strong internal network is critical. Not everyone is a bad apple—there are still some hidden pearls buried in that pile of sh-t.

@bb This is absolutely true.

The only good thing about OTEX is that it is worse than most companies in how horribly it treats employees; therefore, you are unlikely to encounter anything worse in your future career.

You will learn many valuable negative lessons, and appreciate companies that are not maliciously horrible.

If you are in your 20's or 30's or 40's for god sake, GET OUT OF HERE! They will never appreciate your talent or skills. You will never get great raises and you will never feel good about going to work everyday. All us older people don't give a shi_ anymore. We are just here to collect a paycheck and are too lazy to seek out something better.
Work should feel rewarding and you should enjoy it.
It used to be that way for me (before I got swallowed up by cr-ppy OT). Now no one cares about anything anymore. It doesn't matter how much effort I put in to help customers, my manager and directory are no longer engaged. They neither worry or care about our customers or the employhees underneath them.
If you work hard (because it's in your nature to give your best), they don't say thank you and if you dare say something about all the overtime you or others are putting in they trivialize it. It's so disgusting. But when you only have a short time left, you just say sc--w it and put in your hours.
You young people. Want more for yourselves. You will be soooo much happier if you do.

Everyone is in cya mode so no one has the time or desire to collaborate and build relationships. At any moment anyone can be let go. This won’t change until your paycheck no longer comes from OpenText. Executives all know they will be working for different companies soon so they are spending their time networking.

A lot of it is a lottery still.

But yes, we get like 2-3 ELT posts a quarter unless things are rough. Leaders below them are more ymmv. Sorry.

Some departments are collaborative, and then it gets misused to 'oh surely you guys see it enough to join our calls'. Don't dox which dept you're in though.

On the other side, hard to legitimately connect with consistent layoffs. One connection being lost is all it can take for someone to socially shut down.
