Fairfax GM Plant Gears Up for Workforce Return

Workers at the General Motors Fairfax Assembly and Stamping Plant are anticipating the end of nearly two years of layoffs. The plant has been operating on a single shift since September 2025, impacting approximately 750 employees. A shift in focus from electric vehicles to internal combustion engine vehicles, particularly the Equinox, is driving this change. Retooling is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with the second shift expected to resume by mid-2027. This transition is projected to bring the plant back to full employment and boost the local economy.
