Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Message on customer support portal

Oracle may use AI to assist in responding to your Service Request. Responses may include mistakes. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying any recommendations before implementing them in your environment.

It's almost as if Oracle is taunting customers and daring them to leave

@ba yeah, I remember those days. Thing is, O was a lot smaller then. And there wasn’t 100% internal rollout until the 2000s Meaning that offshoring wasn’t yet a thing to decimate strong tech support teams

I'm having mixed feelings about this message:

Oracle may use AI to assist in responding to your Service Request. Responses may include mistakes.

Not to defend AI, but humans make mistakes too. Is AI more prone to making mistakes in these circumstances than the humans are? Why give the warning for "may use AI to assist" when there could have been human-made mistakes all along? Why insert this FUD now? It almost feels like they're trying to sabotage themselves.

It’s a value add. Customers get experience of playing debug, loop rinse/wash/repeat with AI. They should pay extra for this service.

the support people really tried to help

And that, imho, is the way it should be. Unfortunately, the good qualities of companies have made way for en5hittification and the money grab.

@OP WHY did I think the engineers would be checking the AI responses before they went out? I must have been feverish, or drunk.

OK _ so I pay a sh-t load of $ to have a support contract and the answers may be wrong and I can't trust you? That's the deal now?

Oh how I long for the days of the 90s when you called up support and usually got someone you have spoken to before who really cared. Oracle in those days was world class service. Software sometimes flaky but the support people really tried to help :-(

They could easily train the models to do what managers and directors do in support org.

Why not make the customers responsible for the incorrect information they get from an AI customer service agent? That fits right in with having the customers do the testing. I don’t see a problem here.
