Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Boomerang back to Cisco

I’m wondering whether it’s worth taking a job in the meantime to secure better opportunities later. I previously left for a $40K increase because I was severely underpaid, but I’ve heard that some departments have significantly increased compensation for external hires. However, once you’re inside, it becomes pretty difficult to move up if your team already has strong talent, since the bonus pool is small.

My question is which departments are good to join first, then later shop around for a better internal/external opportunity once it appears? I’d rather keep working than have a large gap on my resume.

I’ve heard SBG mentioned where I used to work was impacted by the $4K cuts this summer. How are STO, Meraki, Data, Collaboration, etc.? For context, I’m a SWE.

No. I am not from India started as a 4 then left. I might be RIF soon at my company and have been applying but just wondering if it ok to go here then shop around for a better opportunity.
