Thread regarding Fannie Mae layoffs

Constant Layoffs. Yet still hiring weekly..

I don’t understand the idea of these constant layoffs yet every Monday there’s new ppl getting hired. I see friends who’ve been with the org for years get laid off without warning then suddenly I have a new desk mate/more ppl being added to very roles that were axed. Something is off. Not saying this is for all but for some I feel like it’s a salary thing. Clean house and bring fresh ppl in with lower salary to start. Right after announcing an 4bn dollar Q2. Interesting times we’re in, in this Pulte era.

@pv The company is just another government run entity where they gaslight you constantly. They will tell everyone how important they are to try to make people loyal while they also take credit for everything they consider "successful"; but as soon as you disagree or ask questions about one thing, then you are the problem even if you are correct. It all comes down from the top so everyone has to agree or you are the issue.
Just realize these big companies in most cases don't care about you, but they expect you to sacrifice everything for them. There is no real loyalty, it is completely one-sided. They haven't had a good idea for awhile and have been going downhill since conservatorship.

I think it's absolutely fu---d that you get punished for loyalty and if you've been there for longer 5+ years you get punished and the job market is absolutely brutal.

@cb ratings at Fannie Mae are a joke. The same favored people are given the visible assignments that are then used to justify their ratings. “Feedback” is collected to justify the 2/2 ratings (or lower). Many times this “feedback” is just people trashing the people they don’t like without context. This structure is then used to tell overqualified people that they aren’t ready for a promotion. The stagnancy can then be used to choose who is no longer needed and can be laid off.

@a4 Agreed, I've noticed a lot of this also. And with the ridiculous year end scoring system where the vast majority end up with a 2/2 for their employee rating; nobody stands out and everyone looks the same. So now you have a 2/2 making $80k vs a 2/2 making $100k+ with more vacation time.
Then they just back fill a few positions plus it appeared this year a lot of people left (quit, took another job, something).

You get what you paid for… I recall it took me good few months to get up and running in this convoluted hyper restrictive environment

It’s a mix of lowering headcount and a salary dump. I’ve noticed most of the impacted folks are tenured senior and lead associates - their salary will be significantly higher than an external hire brought in at around the midpoint of the pay band.
