Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

disturbing

it’s hard to find good people in tech, unfortunately HPE has been letting those type of people go…and that’s not by coincidence

Leaders here cause the problems, then act like they’re above accountability.

@37g Initials: SS. Against rules to give names of non-execs on this board.

DEI, merit is dead in this company.
Executive seats get handed to women by quota.
Indians hire Indians.
Women hire women.
Everyone else, especially older white men and minority men, gets the door.

So it’s DEI. Explains a lot. Kind of pathetic that DEI should impact even research teams to the point where the so-called leader of “AI and supercomputing research” does not have a research background, and folks in his team have to carry him; and he gets to add his name on every publication even though he doesn’t do any work. The guy has an obscure degree from India followed by coursera and edx. Total BS if you ask me.

@275 it’s all politics. Indians protect other Indians. Because the protected species did not get where they are on their own steam, they stay loyal to their “sponsors”. The cycle of rot. Once in a blue moon they get caught up in a company wide sweep; but other than that, all they do is cruise at a cushy job, pretend some and cruise some more on company money.

What's really disturbing is that all the Gartner comments got removed from this thread.

@k1 that “head of research” has a massive head on him. This is what happens when DEI hires get to positions they did not earn or qualify for. Because of ethnic (Indian in this case) support from SVP level. As you say, on what basis would a person become a research leader if he did not even earn a PhD? The company, teams and quality of new hires get negatively impacted.

@gv What's strange is that the person heading the "AI research" does not seem to have a research background of any kind. Doesn't possess a PhD but insists that he is looking for PhDs from top notch schools. Has his name stuck in papers of all sorts for the last couple of years, but has nothing before that. A bit strange set-up for a company like HPE where you'd expect things to follow more mainstream standards.

The other worry is: usually people like these suffer from subconscious inferiority complex, lack of confidence and anxiety about their own relevance or career longevity; and that surfaces sometimes when they come across as condescending or full of themselves. The feeling is not entirely positive from an applicant's point of view. On the other hand, the job market is not exactly smooth right now. Got some thinking to do.

laid off and honestly relieved. that wasn’t a restructuring, it was an ethnic cleanse run by a DEI poser and untrustworthy leadership
I gotta let it burn. Usher

@gf every org is different, depends if the leader will go to bat for you. keys to success: be performative, be futbol fan, post hard on LinkedIn, win the chili cook-off… and if you’re male, become female.

What about the culture in the research groups? AI research specifically. Asking for a friend going through interviews there.

@ef

Truth. Leaders being their own Gods, empire building, MAFIA. Easy to get away with the culture Antonio has created.

HPE is not a human business and some of their leaders have no empathy. Toxic and scamming people there. They don't care about their employees, lay people off in November, right before the Holidays, shame on them for ruining families. Good luck to Dell, Lenovo, SuperMicro, and Cisco, please take their business. HPE has become a joke under Antonio.
