Question About Medical Insurance After Termination

I’m planning to look for a new job, and I have a question about health insurance. If I’m terminated today, will my medical insurance end immediately, or will it continue through the end of the month?

You have 60 days after your health coverage ends to retroactively elect for COBRA, and then 45 more days to pay for it. Since the premiums can be expensive, you may choose to get coverage through the government marketplace.

The best option is to use an insurance broker for your state, that can find you a plan that is not on the government site, but is still HSA compatible. They are paid by the insurance company.

If you are eligible for unemployment, then you can use your HSA to pay for the premiums.

it ends at the end of the month of your termination. FSA expenses must be made by your termination date. HSA funds are eligible forever

@a1 Resigning and being laid off are different situations. Sometimes, if you resign, the company may terminate your employment immediately. I believe Synopsys pays the health insurance company on a monthly basis, but I’m not sure whether they would go as far as asking the insurance company to terminate my coverage immediately.

For me it continued until the last day of the month my garden leave ended.

Then after that you can get COBRA cheetahs for which they give you money.
