Does the fact that you could go all out, work a ton, crush all your goals and then some, and still be laid off in the spring motivate you to work harder?

I worked for Medtronic for a long time before being part of a wider RIF in preparation for a site closure.
It took me about 5 years to realize that what you put in your performance evaluations matters none. Just regurgitate the corporate and departmental initiatives that they want you to put in there and BS how your professional and personal goals are going to support those. Your actual job will have no direct correlation.
Second, only do enough to stay employed. Busting your hump guarantees nothing as far as job security.
That only works if you have a direct LOS with GM. If not, just work within your job description, RTO 4 days a week, and cap out at 40 hours a week.
@ea yep. 2% raise the past 2 years even though I continuously take on more, basically told that I have to move heaven & earth to get promoted but I won't continue getting merit increases because I'm at the top of the pay band for my level. literally 0 incentive to do more than is required to stay employed.
@OP Not anymore. Do all the things you list then still get told you’re barely average which lines up with the comment about game players. I don’t have that energy or desire anymore because I see that no matter how hard I work, how many deliverables I crush, it’s “we need you to XYZ.” The carrot is constantly just out of reach so you continue the chase.
Basically my advice is "work just hard enough not to get fired" I'm a 20 yr veteran of MDT.
Nope. It literally does not make sense to "crush goals" at this point. How they don't see that is beyond ridiculous. Only people I see getting promoted is the game players.
No.
