Some people mistake department technical seminars (teammates, candidates, guest speakers..)for a stage where they can perform their insecurity. Especially when management is present, suddenly every irrelevant question becomes a pathetic attempt to prove they’re still “valuable.”
When a candidate presents, these warms interrupt nonstop, derailing the entire session with meaningless questions that serve no purpose except feeding their ego. Then they turn around and blame the candidate for “not managing time.”
Cornering young professionals in public because you’ve been regurgitating the same outdated knowledge for 20+ years isn’t expertise. It’s cowardice. And everyone sees it.

We had one of those guys who had just been promoted to Principal . I was on a project with him, so we had a few meetings and talked about the technical parts of the work but we not much interaction outside of that. Still, whenever we had a group meeting and someone else was presenting their technical work, he would look straight at me, call me out, and pretend he was “guiding” me based on things the he picked up from that presentation.
I've come across a number of them in my career. I recently had to give an overview of a project I was working on to several of the higher ups. My boss had me practice it with the group several times. When I was actually giving my talk to the higher ups one of the guys in my group kept interjecting "his thoughts" only they weren't his thoughts they were just things he picked up during the practice runs. Complete dck. The only thing worse about this guy is the stupid sht he posts on linkedin all the time in response to anything a VP or higher posts.
In our department we have those and it got really bad that some of them were asked to not attend candidate seminars
Our guy will not let you shine at any level.
