AI is a myth sold by Open AI and Claude. AI existed before openAI. USA used palantir AI to catch bin Ladin and 9/11 planners almost 12-14 years ago.
In my opinion LR'ing locals and importing so called highly(fake)skilled laborers. Its neither AI nor offshoring, both seems slow death in comparison at csco.
Offshoring and AI are two sides of the same strategic coin. The dream of AI is that it can be trained by the best (mostly US based) engineers and executed by the cheapest (mostly India based) engineers.
I wouldn't say that dream is close to coming true. The code quality from AI is abysmal and the push to do more with less is causing lots of rookie mistakes to slip through.
@OP You can actually survive to a degree with AI when it is used as a tool for your job. This is especially true for software engineers. It has really changed the job tremendously and allowed for a level of productivity not seen before.
Offshoring is the bigger threat, because its impossible to compete with the wages in the third world, regardless of your ability. You can't control it. The MBAs only look at your job title and salary on the expense spreadsheet and aim to replace your name and salary on that spreadsheet to a non-Western name with a lower salary. You don't get a choice and there is no way for you to even help yourself other than to assume it eventually happens and move accordingly.

Use AI to become productive if it makes sense or skip it. AI is just a specific AI is like automation with a set rules. It is not generic AI like humans think.
AI relies on guessing and pattern matching algorithm.
Bring back jobs to USA where it belongs. Greed is not good, C suites and executives plus Wall Street is selling USA to get rich and outsource all the jobs to countries who want USA and allies to fail. USA needs to defeat Iran, Russia and China.

not an issue it is bringing the work back to where it belongs. Now the local teams can use AI to replace the outsourced tedious work
on the contrary AI is ki-ling the offshoring -see the latest LR -it wiped out entire teams in CX centers
It will soon reverse the tide for coders and developement
