Where we are they are called cheese sniffers. They are so far up management’s rear ends that they are given remote
I didnt get a merit even after working in the office whole year 12 hours a day!

You can always make the request. But you won't get promoted ever again and may not get a merit increase if you are remote. ...So there is absolutely no penalty for being remote.
Bootlickers are pushing remote? Not in my experience. The bootlickers I've had to deal with are the major RTO cheerleaders, with "witty" little comments like

Change out of your pajamas and get to work like an adult.
Maybe it's different in your org.
Good luck. It is reserved for “special” people known as bootlickers. We lost a lot of knowledge with people who quit because they couldn’t move and go remote
