Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

Retaliation at its finest.

Laid off yesterday after 15 years in retaliation for not wanting to take on even more work after basically taking on the work of three other people with no consideration for my capacity at all. It was definitely retaliation though I can't prove it. It su-ks that senior executives promote the global culture especially providing psychological safety but it doesn't actually exist and in fact toxic environments thrive. Don't know what my next steps are but there's freedom in not being stressed out about being behind in everything because you're overwhelmed with an ever-growing list of responsibilities and a leadership that doesn't care. Hopefully another division will scoop me. Nowhere to go but up from here

@1qk I totally agree. As an employee of the company for over 25 years I felt singled out compared to others on my team and dumped on to the point that even my colleagues noticed it. I stuck it out I wanted my severance and I got it. I work somewhere else now and much happier in my new job. There is life after UHC.

@18a I watched someone who had over 10 years experience and had been in their spot so to speak for years and new upper leadership came in and changed all the processes, and had this person start going in the office among other things. They didn’t quit so then they were laid off. After watching this unfold I truly do believe they try everything to make YOU quit first, then if that doesn’t work they wil “eliminate” the position…. Just to re post it with different requirements. It’s so easy to see. They just didn’t want that person for whatever reason. It’s so strange. I don’t see how it’s legal at all. Like at all.

Usually they wait for you to crack under pressure than they get a free one no severance paid when you quit. Sounds more like coincidence since most managers want to preserve head count to protect the empire. Someone up above landed you name on the list. It is rarely for performance more likely just dont like you

It's awful that this happened to you, but you are right to realize that it is also a blessing in disguise.

Your health is important, and you are not a machine.
Try to find something new in a whole different industry.
Take this as an opportunity to bring your skills into a whole new realm for your career.
