Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Good or Bad news?

Had 1:1 with Manager who asked what way I want to grow in the role, then discussed different roles that are currently posted to apply to. Even though I’ve never mentioned that I wanted to change or transfer roles. Is this a sign I’m being pushed out, or a good sign?

@bp Agree. Looks like that manager is proactively helping you explore options so you don’t feel stuck. You’re fortunate, I’ve not had a manager say this to me and I feel stuck.

After yet another reorg, my new manager candidly told me there was no path to promotion or growth within our team structure. I did appreciate their honesty and still think the same about that conversation. It sticks with me because it was a rare moment at this company where management wasn't trying to blow smoke up anyone's azz.

You've been identified in talent review as "someone to develop." If you see an opportunity that matches your goals, jump at it.

LOL. Do NOT read more into this--this is a required conversation they are supposed to have with everyone and they in fact get scored on whether or not you indicate on your survey "my manager is invested in my development and routinely checks with me on my career goals."

Managers are expected to have a career development conversation with you at least once a year regardless of what's going on.

Not necessarily a bad sign. Could be an actual decent manager who knows they can’t promote you to a position you deserve and knows the only way for you to get there is through other paths. They likely know the process is broken and want you to realize that you have to look after you.
