Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The rumored Union EISP will disappoint alot

The current rumor now puts a EISP offer potentially in October for 4th quarter. But let’s face it the union people costs are already built in the expense for the next 4 years. The company knows by the then most will leave empty handed. So what I hear in New Jersey especially with Multiple fiber builds going along with many different network transformation projects there will not be some across the board massive EISP offered .The head count is not there any longer along .Coupled with the fact the company has the ability to just shuffle people around pretty much to anywhere in the State they need them to work the projects. The 30 mile rule the way it’s laid out would take you border to border in any direction.I have no idea about NY they may be different.Along with more then likely a number of offers to inside type people .So good luck ,but don’t hold your breath or base your future off Rumors of a huge pay day .

@cc Hey that’s a really good idea for retirement! Moving to a common sense state that has a balanced budget, is tough on crime and embraces economic policies that benefit everyone. Maybe you on the other hand should move to a deep blue state like Tax-a-Chusetts and bask in those nonsensical policies that result in higher taxes and “people on the dole” that don’t contribute to the tax base but just leech off of it. Go ahead, it only cost $101k on the average to live there!

@OP There’s been offers in almost every year of every contract extension. Yes it varies by title and faa but the offers continue to come. Field techs are getting a little thin with fiber builds and cable mining going on. They will probably surplus more cot’s in New York state with the next surplus rather than ft’s. There’s one faa in New York that hasn’t seen a cot surplus in 10 years.

@c0 Please hurry up and go move to a deep red Republican right to work (for peanuts and no benefits) state. You won't be missed.

I’m doing another four years if there’s no offer. Another $600 or 700K with no layoff clause ain’t a bad thing.

@b1 but Medicare is not till 65. The caps have been exceeded for the medical insurance and if you have a wife and kids still on your insurance you will be paying an arm and leg for insurance in retirement

SS retirement Age is 62, not 65. Anyone working past 62 should receive a thank you, sukka card from the govt

@ag Nope. That’s wireless. How did the great 5G internet disaster work out? Exactly why wireless is being gutted.

@a4 You are so wrong about that. Plenty of people who built and maintained the company for years were and still are being let go. If Dan was here from the beginning there would be no VZ or VZW. You must be living under a rock or misinformed. It's always the doers who get axed and the others somehow hang on. Get a clue!

@aa 30+ years here and the majority of people I know left with an offer, and that included north, central & south NJ, NY and PA. Not saying everyone has but that’s absolutely insane to make it seem like it’s rare that people left without an EISP

Good luck outsourcing. The network is such a disaster nothing would get done.Just the records in engineering alone would sink the place. No one knows what it’s like till you work out in it.

It’s time to outsource the entire mess. It’s a dinosaur and a weight around VZs profitability

Ya parts of Jersey specifically in fios areas first built are not crazy busy ,but also not huge amounts of head count !!But there are a few different new builds going on thru out the state that honestly as they progress don’t have enough outside people. The truth is OP is correct if certain areas seem slow they will just rotate bodies.Other groups thru out the state are starting to take on other transformations project and such.So I believe the company don’t care too much to offer to field ,the union don’t want too many to leave at once and Most won’t leave because of pre retirement healthcare costs and will stick around till 64 or 65 which I believe was a situation created by design to benefit the company and unions dues

@a2 unfortunately the world has changed in the last 40 years....new technologies and processes makes it cheaper to have someone else doing the work....there is Operations as a service offerings already....even by equipment manufacturers....who needs a tech sitting the whole day in a building doing one ticket and making 40 bucks an hour? When you can hire a co. That handles everything for you per falta fees and schedules......VzW uses contractors in many depts. Facilities is moving towards it...engineering....etc it's happening at other companies as well

@OP Still a ton of deadweight in this company, mostly inside. And most people who are waiting for an offer to leave will be very disappointed. How many people do you know that left with an offer? I have been here 30 years and the answer is not many, just sayin

Everyone they've laid off sat in a cozy office doing who knows what, but the people who built and maintain this company haven't been touched. Tells you just how top heavy the company was. As much as you want to criticize the new boss. If he was here earlier the company would already be in much better shape. Lots of wasted money over the years on everything but making this company better.

Medical costs are astronomical and getting worse. If no type of bridge to Medicare they got me until 65 anyway.

Reality is most techs are age 50 plus with over 30 years service. I know where I work they do not replace techs who retire or leave for whatever reason and that has left it to just a skeleton crew remaining.
People will be leaving on their own as they age out.
I was waiting for the chaos to happen if the rumors of eisp across the board did happen.
At least where I am the company needs to hire or bring in more people not give any eisp.
