I don't know what happened, but the culture seems to have shifted. My manager went from being one of those horrible micromanagers to minding his own business, we backfilled two positions which made everything so much easer on all of us, and there has been no talk about layoffs for a while. I don't want to jinx it, but credit where credit's due.

Imagine that. Some employees’ jobs are better, and some are worse. Sounds like a typical US company to me.
Lesson: Don’t judge a company based on how your particular situation is going.
LOL, I’d say it’s the exact opposite. Just look at R. Cameron and his little army of yes-men and tagalongs. All they seem to know is how to play politics. You could put a random office chair in his position and it’d probably do a better job.
OP - Good for you. Oxy is a good company overall to work for, but your leader can make a good company a bad for you. Hope things keep going for the better.
