I applied for an internal position in Feb, got some pay bump but I RIFed told last Thursday. My previous team has no opening for me and I was told I can apply for roles internally the next few weeks. WTF. Why would they hire someone internally knowing that the position is funded and rif the role in less than 5 months. The only reason given was "funding" but Sr. Dir making a lot more and who does nothing is still there. This is really messed up

I didn't take a new role got re-orged from a small to large team and was rifed in under 8 months that team of 8 is now down to 3 with the manager
Agree with the previous post. The budget for that area was cut and they let the newest person go. I'm sorry that happened to you. For any new role I interview for, I always ask about past and future budgets. I want to see if I'm going to a growing area or one that is shrinking or unstable.
Because it came down that the dept needs to save more money than it was told earlier in the year. It happens multiple times to just about every department in the entire org. You are unlucky being recently hired vs a longer tenured team member within the group. Nothing more
Sorry this happened to you. This is not uncommon at Optum or UHC.
I'm not sure what is surprising about this. Maybe it's because I've seen this happen at prior companies, including Optum. I've seen new hires get laid off within four months.
The only thing I haven't seen yet at Optum is offering someone externally a role and pulling it back after offer and before their start date. I have seen that in my last company.
This is pretty common. People change roles or get promoted and RIFed in the same year. I've seen this happen to several people over the years at Optum.
I’ve seen this done before. The hiring manager gets wind of a downsizing coming to his/her dept and they find a way to get a new resource hired so they do not have to lose one of the existing resources. Very shady, sneaky and it su-ks!!!
I mean it’s annoying but a lot changes in almost half a year. It’s one thing if it’s 2 weeks in, but months, welcome to Optum
a lot can change in 5 months
Terrible news for you. Unethical for sure.
