Lots of IT people cut in Columbus

Week 4 of RTO my floor is still empty, all my calls are on Teams….
@2a39 If you take a lump sum when you retire and take AEP medical for self and spouse if u die after retirement ur spouse will not be able to continue with AEP medical since there is not survivor annuity.
https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1jy8vwm7k - this is something I've been wondering as well.
@2a33 it's a Cash Balance pension and there is only one deposit each year unless you retire and then HR will calculate your final deposit on a prorated basis. The deposit is made up of the previous year's interest and your cash deposit for the previous year's employment.
In Oct/Nov the company will send out an email as to what the interest rate will be for the coming year and what it will be if you retire and take the annuity.
Don't take the annuity, if you die earlier than expected, the company keeps the balance. Take the lump sum when you retire.
Does anyone know why the pension account only updates once per year?
@294w Water in sink, toilet, shower drains probably evaporated because no one has run water in them for so long. No water allows sewer gases to come up through drains' dry traps. Don't smoke in bathrooms. Methane is flammable.
Do any of these trust fund charity cases know anything about running a electric utility?
@29gs, sane advice, thanks.
@29er Should I come back? 😭
No way will I come back after training my replacement in 2020, AEP can kiss my a$$. I know the systems and could come up to speed in less than a few weeks to support the same systems when I left.
AEP will try to go on a hiring binge to get people but I doubt TCS will provide the same level of training they received when they took over. TCS will want to get out the door as soon as possible.
Most of the contractors were subpar technical wise but you get what you paid for.
@29f6, If you're aware it's off-topic, perhaps it's better to start a new topic on the main board instead of posting it here. It’s really simple, you’re just one step away: just scroll to the top and hit the big blue "American Electric Power Co. Inc. layoffs" link, which will take you to the main board.
Also thought the town hall today was weird given timing. But I am curious about the 1RP modernization. Many parts of the building are in rough shape. Building has almost no amenities. Makes in office work even more dreadful
Townhall was nothing major. A business update. And talking about modernizing 1RP.
@29dw The good news is that Tata will be out the door when their contract ends next year.
Sounds like Doug Cannon could be the silver lining we’ve been waiting for in transmission….but it could also be wishful thinking…
There's a current town hall with the new Transmission President in 1RP. Not sure about any secret town hall with Bill in the Fortress of Doom.
Any info on the limited Town Hall?
The financial waste of retaining 1RP with so few employees working within its walls is enough mismanagement and fiscal incompetence to throw a rate case in favor of consumers. The sale of that property could pay for a lot of distribution right of ways to be cut from the substation to the end of the line enormously enhancing storm assessment and restoration times, reliability and reduce overtime and injuries. In 2024, the average sale price for office space in Columbus was $96.17 per square foot. A national trend, and also noticeable in Columbus, is the shrinking average lease sizes on new deals as tenants consolidate space.
For the person who responded before me…
I don’t doubt for a second Bill has eyes on convos here and Glassdoor. Thanks for the heads up!
I’m shaking in my boots
People saying there’s a Town Hall tomorrow at 1RP…yeah. These are plants to see who reads here. Don’t ask people you know or they’ll know you read here and you will be a bullseye. Unless you want to go and have other means to provide for yourself and your family, just leave it alone. Bilbo doesn’t do jack without recording it and parading it across the wires. BF is hot at Arizona desert rocks this site and Glassdoor exist, and he’s looking for the leaks. Don’t be one.
My password has become so long and complicated and has to change so often that I can't memorize it so I just leave it written on a post-it note on my desk. Another IT winner.
What about taking advantage of the large engineering workforce nationwide?
IT is remote because they want to take advantage of the large IT workforce nationwide. They can underpay them relative to market with the remote designation, and keeping costs low is important to a utility, especially in a non core area.
Why does IT get to still be remote when everyone else doesn't?
What argument can you make for IT being remote that you can't also make for the engineers?
There are 4 brand new IT job postings on AEP right now, hiring fully remote.
What about collaboration?
Is Thursday’s townhall going to be streamed live? Anyone know?
@295z
You can't fit a fraction of the bldg in there, so he's fishing for su-kups - looking for Billy's special bois.
The 'not recorded' BS is to trigger su-kup FOMO. If the message were really that important, they would record it and also make an article out if it, and probably feature the article for 3 weeks.
Hm I don’t understand why it’s not recorded and why they chose to explicitly say that
Town Hall is at 1RP and the email specifically says it will not be recorded.
Wasn’t there a post several months back about major changes coming in June? Prophecy fulfilled? Nothing would surprise me at this point.
How do you get someone fired at AEP? Many complaints have been sent in and it’s like AEP insists on keeping this person who doesn’t give any value to the company.
1RP smells like sewer today. Is this normal??
What does everyone think about the General Counsel announcement?
@294d the town hall is only at 1RP. Not sure why though
I’m no longer at AEP, but the news is on AEP.com. https://www.aep.com/news/stories/view/10284/
@293d was that only announced to 1RP Employees? I'm in another Ohio location and didn't see a town hall announcement.
Bill has turned the C-Suite into Augusta National. It’s undeniable.
To the question about Julie’s c-suite … isn’t Phil still there? Unbelievable!
Another Berkshire buddy joins Bill's team.....no surprise there... AEP is BHE 2.0....
All these outside hires are really discouraging for career minded AEP people. This is Bill and the board saying they don’t see any homegrown talent to be developed.
Is there anyone left from Julie’s C-suite besides Greg?
If you’re a woman or have an ounce of any color, don’t even bother dreaming of becoming an executive leader under Bill Fehrman. I haven’t seen anything like this since since the early 90s.
