Topics regarding layoffs at Union Pacific Corp.

Here we go again ladies and gentlemen

Right before Christmas, the axeman is coming. Sounds about right. Execs are going after lower management this time. Shhhh don't tell anyone.

Double Standard

Anyone notice that if an agreement employee is accused of an EEO violation, they are immediately removed from service, investigated and are only allowed to return to work if found innocent. If a manager is accused of an EEO violation, they remain on... — read more

Officer special train

What do they do to get ready for special train in your area? I see them clean windows on the trackside of depots. Clean up weeds at signal huts, pick up trash . MTM sweeps the concrete ties on wye track. I always leave town when the train... — read more

Alot of western depots are running quite large with managers. Especially in the mechanical departments. Example, check out Roseville, Ca. If you want to make our shareholders money, cut those positions in half. Just have foremen and one manager per... — read more

Are there any good managers here?

I'd like to avoid generalizing, but it seems to me that there are no good managers at UP anymore, those who lead by example, who bring out the best in people, who actually care about the company, employees and customers. I wish someone would tell... — read more

UP Electricians

Whatever happened to the Electricians that drove the bucket trucks? I never see them around anymore.

Big change

Luckily, I'm only here for a few more days because I got a new offer. What will forever remain a mystery to me is why UP had to become what it is today, that is, from a place where good employees felt valued and appreciated, to a place that I would... — read more

I am not impressed with the pension.

I am paying $330 per month tax (tier 2). For about a $42 per month benefit 17 years from now. (Currently 50 yrs old) To recoup what I paid in I would have to collect until I was 75 years old. 82 years old if you factor in what the railroad... — read more

Not impressed with management at UP

Hello, I’m new to this site. I’ve been with UP less than two years. One thing I’ve noticed is that my managers absolutely have no clue about what’s going on. Is this a common thing at UP?

They still manage by fear

I find it interesting that the management here still tries to manage by fear. They see that the employees are no longer afraid to leave UP, the company is left without people who know how to do their job, but mgmt still tries to convince us that... — read more

Insurance policies

How many workers have canceled all their extra insurance policies that the Union offers? It’s annoying when the policy pushers come in the crew rooms trying to get more money.

I accepted the offer here because at that moment I couldn't find anything better, and I desperately needed money. Considering how much UP is pushing its employees, the pay should be a lot higher. What miracle needs to happen so that start getting... — read more

Seems to be common at UP. Must be a requirement for getting promoted. Wonder if they teach that in the UP way training classes.
