Has anyone tried to switch to BNSF?

I stayed in this company only because of my family, otherwise I would have agreed to any other job, even a lower paid job, just to get out of here. Honestly, UP made me feel disgusted with the railroad industry in which I dreamed of working as a boy... — read more

UP recruiting. Not!

Someone wrote this yesterday: “I heard about a career fair that the UP was a part of last year that NO ONE was interested in. I was told that it was in Iowa somewhere. As big as the UP is, and with some of the wages the UP pays, that no one showed... — read more

Calling people back to work.

Bonuses and cuts

Well I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t nice to see the managers get it stuck to them too. I was in the crew room by my senior managers office when he got the call about his bonus and it was 50% less than last time he was p-ss-d. The admin lady said... — read more

Greasing the wheel.

Gets you preferred treatment here, as does polishing the knob. Careful there, someone might put a broomstick in your spokes or cut off the oppressing appendage.

How is this happening?

I noticed the CEO's review numbers on glassdoor have gone up. The situation at the UP hasn't gotten any better. The UP is a cesspool, not one employee left has anything nice to say, and somehow he's doing better?

Can't even be happy about this

In a normal company people would be happy to know results were improving because it would mean fewer layoffs. With UP we know all too well that how well the company does has exactly zero bearing on layoffs. Some of our worst layoffs came while our... — read more

Hiring train crew at north platte

So UP went from hiring for nothing to hiring for everything. Does this mean all the people in north platte that were laid off are going to get called back or they just want to hire some more and lay them off after training is over as well?

Any layoffs happen this year already?

Mechanical call backs

They have called back some diesel shop guys that were furloughed in San Antonio. Only one accepted so far. The rest rejected.

UP not hiring

UP doesn’t have any external jobs posted for the first time in a while. Not even anything for the poor interns. Not even the 6 or 7 lawyer postings they usually have. They need to start hiring some dispatchers before they have to get the DJs... — read more

A comedy of errors

Raiding for former dispatchers?

The greatest part is there is no hiring class in the works. A dispatcher takes 6 months to train and 2-4 years to get decent. When it downward spirals it will go down fast. **I have heard they are raiding the company for former dispatchers and making... — read more

Another one bit the dust!

I've seen engines explode before, but this one is the worst I've seen so far. A UP engine in Utah blew up so badly that mangled everything with 4 feet of of the turbo. How no one was injured in that explosion is a miracle.
