Class action suit against UP.
Just read on benzinga.com that the class action suit against UP is moving along in the courts, alleging they violated the American with Disabilities Act. Anyone sent home for medical reasons since 9/18/2014 will have their case heard in court... — read more
Average length of furlough
Wondering what the average length of a furlough is. There’s a guy on another message board who says he was hired in August 2014, furloughed in September 2015, and brought back in March 2018. I’m hoping it’s just a typo, and that he wasn’t actually... — read more
I don't think we can keep up with this workload for a month or two, much less for a longer amount of time
I really don’t know what is in the heads of the management, thinking we can work in these conditions for a longer amount of time. After the layoffs all the work from the people that were let go in my team was simple transferred to us. At first I... — read more
Thanks for giving me the (ski)boot!
Found a new job a month after the UP HR genius had to make “tough choices”. Now I’m off to Switzerland for a fantasy ski vacation on their dime. I’ll be sure to have a cup of coffee with friends and reflect in the lodge. Thanks for putting this old... — read more
Is it just me...
...or does it feel that the only people working at Union Pacific are those who have not been hired by other companies yet? Because everybody I know has already left or is looking. They got their entire workforce looking for new jobs. Really good... — read more
Employee shortage
Service unit meltdowns upper management breaking - stress indused unprofessional personnel is all that is left. Shortage of workers and sitting trains in all yards is this only happening in North? Or is this in South also??? Not sure is they are just... — read more
Employee Pride Lovomotive
So instead of the 3 proposed designs we create one that reads "In Memoriam, to those we lost: 2018-2020"

This place is toxic
I don't understand how they can get rid of people who have given their everything to UP so easily... Everybody here works so hard - and then they walk all over us and dismiss us like we never existed - while the company is doing great!!! How is that... — read more
Less trains, less yards workers, less business
The only positive impacts of these changes will be visible short term, due to cost cutting produced by layoff. Trains are sitting as we speak, with less yard workers how can we expect the process no to be slower. The decline of business will be... — read more
Too bad for them that they can’t outsource the railroad
Of course I say that with sarcasm, but If that wasn’t physically impossible, I bet they would consider that option. To put it in more serious terms, they plan only to keep the workforce that’s physically connected to operating a railroad system (the... — read more
Pay Rate
Hi, this may be off topic, but I cannot seem to find the union contract with pay rates for UP train crew. I was interviewed today and I was told to expect furloughs. I’m not crazy about the idea, but I need the job. All UP says is new TC employees... — read more
A scared and stressed out workforce is not an efficient workforce
Am I the only one noticing that people can’t do their job with the same speed and with the same quality. Who can blame them. The leadership created a toxic environment with these layoffs and the threat of new ones, no wonder that’s all about folks... — read more
Everyday we go to work scared.
Us young guys wonder....when are we going to get cut. We look at the roster daily and continue to assume someone is going to come back from medical leave. In turn the low man gets furloughed. Or a foreman or foremen job gets abolished. So they return... — read more
Directors
The "band B and C" folks keep getting fired and now my director only has 2 people reporting to the position. Why do we need so many directors and AVP's?
Pumped!
Hey ya'll! Had a productive day today brothers and sisters! Got power out in the nick of time for a Z train and it felt really good! It almost turned into a disaster but I put my skills to use and really knocked it outta the park today. I could tell... — read more
Do you think the will keep me, given that i reach my pension at the beginning on 2020?
Do you thin they will even care about that fact, or they will have no problem firing me in my last year? I mean, I’m a good performer and all, but as we all know that stopped being a relevant criteria a long time ago at UP.
People are quitting UP
I see more and more like employees quitting due to the poor work conditions. I know my workload had doubled and it ain’t getting done and were cutting corners Same thing is happening here. People are just so tired - not just of constant layoffs, but... — read more

Why is UP stock falling
Just curious why is stock falling? Is it because our rails are grid locked with junk locos and BNSF is taking our customers?
Does everybody else’s director go on vacation every single time the axe comes down?....Or is that just mine?
It’s such a funny coincidence that every single time they are making a cut, our director goes on vacation! Hopefully it’s because he’s wallowing in guilt, since we all know they sent him to our shop to dismantle it slowly, waaaaaaay before they... — read more
Any rumors on what yards could be closed next?
Starting to get worried with all the closures. Any rumors on future yard closings, and is there any signs that were there before the shut down, that we can see to anticipate an actual yard closure?
North Platte not enough foreman
They call 2-3 extra jobs per shift and can't fill the jobs. Look for borrow outs soon. Not enough foreman so they force people to cover. The switchman's extra board is getting thin. No layoffs in sight. Vena where you at.
WHY ARE THE POSTS ABOUT LARRY FINK BEING DELETED
His BlackRock investor group and the seats they control on the board need mentioned as the source of the illness.
15 million a day ain’t good enough
Last year the Union Pacific averaged 15 million a day in profits. I’m amazed this ain’t good enough. Stupid fritz is borrowing money to shore up the stock price for him and the shareholders. They are gutting the company
So, when is the next big wave?
We seem to be getting used to this state where layoffs are an everyday occurrence, even more we seem happy that they are performed in that way and not in another massive wave. My take is that there will be another massive wave of layoffs at the... — read more

Is it possible to see management cuts within the restructure?
If they keep this tempo of cuts there will be more managers than workers. I know many of us will say that they saved their asses at the expense of the workers, but I also think that this situation isn’t sustainable, especially for the company that... — read more
