I work with a Netapp competition, and don't think this is Netapp specific. But entire storage industry is in bad shape. This is the time for NetApp to fire the bad apples, and hire new blood. All the best.

The layoff is just another way to outsource engineering to India... I work in EMC, and same thing just happened. They laid off a group here in Jan and this week, 20+ new hires in India.

The NetApp buildings are so much nicer than the TRW buildings they replaced.

Our VP called for entire team meeting this morning in RTP, March 1. 25 people. He asked for everyone to be there in person. Plus, he was on linkedin updating his information yesterday. It's not looking good. Good luck everyone!!!

Confirmed with a VP in engineering that hardware group will take a hit. There is a big push now within NetApp is leveraging whitebox / ODM solutions. Just look at Solidfire -- someone else's hardware!

Everyone I'm talking to in Sunnyvale saw it coming and is pretty happy. They're glad that they slow rolled it and got the severance. It's like a double blessing -- long lead time on the layoff and two months paid leave.
