@30p spreadsheet wars is funny as years before they started laying off our team the vp Anthony Favre had it documented in a spreadsheet to lay off at least 1 on shore resource a year and replace with off shore or add responsibilities to another worker. I found the un secured spreadsheet about a year before they let me go. lol so it’s just a numbers game to leadership, they dint care about the work or the people, as they expect 60-80 hours weeks I have recordings of them justifying bad reviews with that as the answer lol you are a lower performer as you can get your work done in 40 hours where’s everyone else does 60 -80 mind you I was setting production levels for 14 years straight lol. Remember at MetLife you are only a number not a human. Run while you can.
@30p this is also 100% true for non-tech roles within the US Business.
@281 Ya, I think working at Met as a technical person is a temporary mid-career gig at best. I don't think you can stay there long, otherwise you are going to be trapped on old, outdated systems and cleaning up after yet another batch of cheap contractors over and over.
And eventually, it will jut turn into spreadsheet wars where you spend all your time minimize expenses over everything else.
Better for most to move on, I would say.
@21f yea legacy will never be solved at Met. They don’t want to spend the money to update it all and leadership isn’t knowledgeable enough to make the right choices. lol
Glad I’m gone too, working on deploying entirely new modern systems end to end. Day 1 all new claims/policies/data on new system within the next year for day2 legacy will be done for good. 0 chance met could ever do that lol. Current company will to take the hit financially now as they can make it up on efficiency, accuracy, ability to acquire new business and actually meet their requests in a timely manner. lol plus much easier moving forward and ability to grow the business in new markets, etc.
@20z I don't think the leadership could possibly understand the amount of legacy code/system problems the average dev/SE has to deal with at this organization is. I just don't think the handwaving they do could do anything substantial here.
There is so much entrenched logic and legacy code with any given system, its so crazy that even our good friends in TCS can't fully handle it to any significant degree.
I am glad to not be working there anymore.
RM had to sit through that bs ai leadership training and said I'm outta here lol
@1re You mean the mumblers can't be called during Holi and Dhiwali to come back online and prompt Copilot correctly to fix it?
We're sc--wed then. Those are the supposed geniuses. If they can't solve it, nobody can!
@18t Genesis is a trash system that they can't fix because they're too cheap to hire real devs.
@15p Any specific sh-t hitting the fan soon?
Ricky being smart and getting out before sh-t hits the fan.
@zc Time to replace them with TCS resources then? How many could you get for their salary?
Richard Ma. Now at USAA.
He was poached by a rival.....and his number 2 went to the same company at the same time and we where blind sided.....no one to step in, lots of issues with some big projects in flight.
Google is your friend.
