Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

@4xb I didn’t make the post from @af but I’m having trouble understanding the animosity towards it. He/She is merely stating facts. Connections get you ahead in life. It’s just a fact! If you don’t believe that then you are seriously naive! @af isn’t saying it’s the ONLY way to get ahead, or the noble way, but there is no denying that having good connections (ie networking!) gets you ahead! How hard is that to understand?
And the wealthy DO often get richer by sharing inside info with their inner circles. Again, this is a cold hard fact. No one is saying it’s the ONLY or most noble way to get rich, but there is no question that it happens! @af is just stating how the world works. Unless I’ve misread that post, I’m just seeing facts stated, nothing more. Not sure how that makes the person a m0r0n…. I have no problem with a parent helping their kid get their foot in a door. I am not in favor however, of that kid getting favorable treatment once they are given that opportunity. My guess is that jealousy is behind the intense reactions I’m seeing on this topic.

@af you justified the title of the post. Low self-esteem people like you will always normalize nepotism because without that you don’t exist.

@OP People with low IQ and high greed are often shameless, and BD's leadership is no exception. I just don't understand how their children, despite being born and raised in the US, seem to have no values. Is it all genetic?

BD is just second or third classes wannabe's who couldnt make the cut for the more premiere companies or government positions. Were led by a bunch of losers who were not cool enough for the higher nepotic social circles, so they juice the BD machine and mimic the actions of those they admire in the higher circles. BD losers are however keen enough to also mimic the corrupt and dishonest methods of propping up the stock prices, though they do a poor job at it by looking at the stock price history...

@g9 I've seen more examples involving that group, no doubt. But let's not forget who brought the CIO in before leaving the organization. I've seen the same kind of behavior in other groups too, so this isn't unique to any one of them.

That largest group in TGS seems almost proud of nepotism, as if it's something to celebrate. Hiring someone because they're part of your circle, even when they do not meet skill required for a job is dereliction of duty.

To me, that usually comes from insecurity. People who lack confidence tend to surround themselves with familiar faces and yes-men instead of people who will challenge their thinking. That might make life easier in the short term, but it rarely builds a strong team.

The real irony is that these kids will grow up condemning politicians for nepotism, forgetting that their own parents practiced the same thing and they themselves are product of nepotism.

@OP someone told me that is how Indians operate almost always. Is it an indian thing or do you see this practice among other ethnicities?

@af while that is the unfortunate reality but people with self respect don’t follow that path. OP probably tried to make that point and I fully agree with that. These kids are both shameless and skill less, that is why they have no other way to get a job. And because of this malpractice in all hiring and promotion process, BD has one of the weakest technical team.

In today's world solid connections get you ahead in life. All those C-Suite executives don't get rich being empathetic. They get rich by getting insider trading information from their executive buddies at the country club.
