Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

In the coming months

I foresee a loosening of the restrictive FT RTO because of a few factors.

One being that the malcontents would’ve left.

Two they will have replaced them with newbies willing to crawl in everyday, but the drawback of the newbies is the brain drain they likely didn’t expect.

And with those factors involved the loosening of the strict adhere to 5/4 will be happening.

They might attain employees wiling to slog in but that does not equate quality or skill or professionalism.

There also might be a tremendous amount of negative blow back on the CFO too since he seemingly is the mastermind behind this tactic.

Defying years of relaxed and welcomed 1-2 days a week of wfh encouraged because a happy worker produces more and better quality.

Must restore the balance. ☯️

@qj sanest thing I've ever read on here - I think you're correct.

@qj I could also see manager discretion being used to push certain employees toward leaving, or to justify cost-cutting in much the same way the current office attendance requirements have been handled. Employees who are viewed favorably end up with more flexibility, while others are held to a stricter standard. In years when the company wants to reduce bonuses or headcount, they can justify choosing someone for not following an attendance policy that was never clearly defined or communicated.

I don’t know about in a few months but I fully anticipate within the next 1-2 years it will gradually shift back to what it was pre-Covid: different cultures department to department but in general working from home 1-2 days per week at BU/manager discretion but nothing will ever be written formally. The company policy will always be 100% In Office but if you keep your head down, get your work done, and have a good relationship with your manager you’ll be granted flexibility.

Not happening. Brain drain already here if you don’t see it you are blind. This is here to stay. Town Hall last week even reinforced the poor leadership by telling us to leave earlier than usual to avoid traffic, or else face consequences. Good luck y’all.

@dk how is this the case in Westlake when the campus is full now and will be less full when the phone reps will only be in once every four weeks?

@bk Do you have reference to these tax breaks somewhere? Typically government tax subsidies are public information, so they should be available on the internet somewhere.

@dh tax breaks are based on your occupancy % on a rolling 18-36 month basis. They’re well below where these need to be and do not want to pay backed taxes for not meeting them.

you had the tax breaks before covid so why not just go back to the way it was before Covid. It doesn't have to be everyone everyday, it can be whatever it was before. Is that so fcking hard.

This is pure cope. Full RTO is staying. It has nothing to do with the company performance or your career progression. It is 100% because of the tax breaks they received for these campuses. They need to be a percentage occupied and the Covid relief from the local municipalities is gone.

@ag a lot of people miss this fact. The only unusual detail about the May layoffs was that Fidelity acknowledged them publicly. They have been performing quiet layoffs for years.

Fidelity has been hiring and laying off for a great many years.
Fidelity cares neither for those who are to be leave or those who stay.

@OP sounds like wishful thinking - but whatever gets you thru it.
