Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Those who paved the road to ruin are now complaining

Executives upset that after gutting the upstream and underinvesting they have a horizon challenge. They have a severe case of selective amnesia about the decisions they made that led us here. The compounding consequences of those decisions were very predictable. And it will only get worse. I see another Exxodus being the true horizon challenge.

@eq I wondered the same. Who knows...? Could be pipelines; could be that he hates American jobs. It's control room talk, but it sounds about right.

@a5 I heard today that DW doesn't even want to come here either. He's coming to BR to lobby our governor to not let SpaceX build that launch site at Pecan Island.

it’s ok, i know the fix!

sell production assets
sell real estate and then rent back a smaller footprint
buy back stock
fire 40% of the company
any new jobs must in india
executives need more stock and cash comp

just kidding. that’s not a plan that will fix it, but it is the plan they’ve been following for five years and will continue to follow

So you're saying that offshoring more and more jobs might not be the solution to this one?? 😏

The guys who did this to us are all retiring right about now. They got theirs so why give it a second thought.

Anyone with any strategic sense saw this coming when the MC gleefully decimated geoscience and neutered exploration in 2020.

There was even a senior exec quoted as arrogantly saying “we have them a whole (exploration) company and they didn’t do anything with it”.

Reap what you sow.

No surprise. I’ve never heard the company ever admit it would have done something differently. If they couldn’t do it in Covid, it is not happening now.

Course of action is either acceptance or buying an asset. Same thing with logistics. The course was locked in ~15 years ago. Now it’s either live with it or buy it.

I have a feeling the next 10 years will be known as the great oil company consolidation. As every company whittles down to shells, they are going to need to aggregate…and it still won’t be enough. Budget for high oil prices and inflation in your retirement, folks.

@OP All of you little $30k “millionaires” helped pave it too. You all deluded yourselves into thinking that you were in the Big Capital Club because you played politics and wore slacks to an office building.

Now you’re all on here daily screaming about how you’re getting thrown under the bus and basically begging the people doing it to you to make it stop. In my opinion, a lot of you have it coming anyway, so IRDGAF.

@OP

Speaking of paving. The Baton Rouge Refinery just repaved the roads in honor of our CEO stopping by for a visit.

Not all of the roads. Just the one that he will be traveling on from the Main Office to the Control Center. The bathroom is also getting touched up after 40 years.

What a circus this company has become.

Instead of addressing years of foundational strategy missteps they are now pointing the finger at employees and yelling.
