Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I chaanged my LinkedIn status to open for work and immediately started receiving phone calls from recruiters

There are a lot of jobs out there and employers looking for people. Make the chanage. You will be glad you did.

Maybe it depends on where in the world you are. From experience, Europe job market is borderline non-existent and LinkedIn has nil leads.

Make your money elsewhere as I don't even see anyone looking for new employees, and as we know there's actually very very little discretionary movement of employees for ages now.

Unless you have an offer in your hand......it's just "telemarketers" like everyone says here.

Most of jobs you see advertised are:
Pipeline builders: keep a standing list of candidates, particularly for high-turnover jobs.
Placeholders: they want to hire someone eventually, but don’t currently have the funding/approval.
Growth signal: active roles signal to investors the company is growing and doing well
Compliance: rules and regulations require them to post the job, even if they are hiring internally.
Morale pressure: let current employees know they are replaceable.

@OP I'm sure there are many people out there who are still struggling to find work. Many of those people looking for work on this site would be more than happy to share their stories, positive or negative. Based on talking to my former colleagues, the job market is brutal. I retired about 2 years ago and I still get calls monthly from former co-workers asking if I know of anyone that is hiring.

You must be going about it wrong. These are real recruiters offering real roles. I have multiple offers progressing and it has happened very quickly.

They’re fishing for data. If you’ve noticed, a bunch of them suddenly added these useless HR interviews after being irrelevant for years. They ask about salary, bonuses, raises, benefits all of it feels off. Then the technical interviews are just as bad: unprofessional, obsessed with tiny details, projects, and “success stories,” instead of evaluating actual skill.

@OP They’ll do everything they can to get you to say what you make, mark what you say (and don’t say) as a data point, then ghost you.

Now you now how companies determine “market conditions” for compensation.
