The company moved me to Midland less than a year ago. If I voluntarily leave the company what will I have to repay? Does the company really collect the move expenses etc? I did sell my house in Houston when I lived and the company paid the closing costs. Anyone have personal experience with this scenario?

At Shell you have to stay in the new position after relocation for a year. If I quit before one year I have to pay everything back for relo. It’s not worth it to quit before one year. Just quit the first day in year 2
I have known several people in this situation over the years. None were required to repay it. It is something they use against employees to make us scared to leave.
The policy is stupid. The company manages all of our careers, and if they want us to move, we say no at our own career risk. The idea that you should have to pay back moving expenses that were incurred to the company’s request if you decide to move to a better situation is criminal.
Generally, any debt owed to the company is recovered from final pay and you’re given the balance (if there is one), or a letter with details on how to repay the rest. So if you have any leave entitlements, savings plans, even a potential pension payout (but I’ve never seen this), these will likely be applied to the debt.
Don't pay. It is arguable the company put you in a less of desirable situation, putting shackles on you and stuff .
But you don't have to argue anything with anyone.
They will try to get it back. Just refuse to pay. They will send to collections and those guys will try to harass you for a while. Don't give in. They try to negotiate it down to a much lower amount, but don't accept. In seven years it gets wiped clean.
