Sadly many people I thought were a friend fail to stay in contact or even attempt to maintain any links or connection once transferred. If you aren’t useful to them they have no time for you.

These people are not your friends. They are your colleagues. Don’t get them confused. Maintain a professional character at work.
@m5 is correct. dont share your thoughts with anyone. they will use it against you even if they act like a trusted friend. very sad.
No one is your friend. They are all competitors and will turn on you. I only have one person in twenty years of working at the dysfunctional he ll hole called exxon that I can call a friend. I still talk to this person and eat lunch with. Everyone else was pure evil. Trust no one.
That’s typical of Texas & Southern US culture
XOM people survive by sabotaging other people’s careers. We had this guy on our team who desperately wanted to be seen as “caring” and “supportive.” He was terrified of confrontation, so he’d come to you with this fake soft voice saying, “Talk to me, I’m here to help.” And the second you turned around, you could practically feel the kn--e going into your back.
Be kind to others and be kind to yourself. We’re all just trying to get through this life the best way we can. It’s a whole lot more enjoyable when we can lift each other up and not tear each other down.
Sad but true, even with the people you are get along, try not to contact you.
Work is a transaction, not an identity, don’t take it personally
Co-workers, in almost all cases, are not your friends. Be ready for that clean break as soon as the common bond is severed.
I see a lot of busy people who barely keep their work and family lives under control. I wouldn’t assign a slight where none exists.
