I wonder if all the people stealing a career will be sent home / back to Sunbury? North Sea been treated as a hiding place for serious incompetence in other regions
People will be ringfenced and sold with the NS assets like property. You are a commodity.
Very sad. That business created so much talent for us.
@jb there will be no EOI
@jb, when Wind got sold to JeraNext, benefits were guaranteed for a year. Of course, with the decline of the global wind market, lots of folks that I knew that were ring fenced have been let go. Whoever buys the NS will still need operators, subsea folks, etc, but the further you get away from the bit or the valve the less they’ll need you.
I work globally but out of Aberdeen and my remit includes some North Sea work.
Fully expect to be sold with the business.
And let’s face it, it can hardly be any worse?
Do expect once the transaction goes through there will be a serious cull though, sure there will be no shortage of volunteers for an EOI.
@ej, most likely? You get ready to work for a new employer. Which might not be a bad thing.
@ej Even if your work is global, your Aberdeen location ties you to the North Sea business, you should assume you’re part of the divestment group. When a company sells an entire regional business, the buyer expects a complete operating organisation, not a cherry picked list
so if you sit in the Aberdeen office, but work exclusively on projects outside the NS what happens?
@e0 , if you “primarily” support NS or are Aberdeen-based, then you’re ring-fenced.
@e0 those in global roles will be simply backfilled to whichever business is it getting supported, you can guarantee there will someone in WL, Sunbury or TSI
So what does that mean for the NS employees ? Are they part of the sale, even those who work in global roles
@d8 no one in TSI is expecting a long career. It’s a revolving door over there. Every company who has opened an office there deals with the same thing.
@dk that was it that was the big thing
BP is no longer going to operate in North Sea as per Meg. Something big is coming
This time it seems that some discussion is on a positive track that is why Meg has send an email to prepare the people for the final news.
The final news may be out soon now ! Most impacted will be the TSI people who joined the company recently in hope of a long career.
They've tries to sell it multiple times but couldn't get it over the line. Question is who would want it...ithaca have been talked about but initial discussions weren't fruitful...

Layoffs, guys-- coming to talk about those in person… Obviously
Joint venture???
@ad Move into the future. We sell assets all the time when they no longer serve our strategy.
@a3 a past that was needed to give you a job!!!
@a4 it’s a good point but afaik it’s related specifically to internal trading activity. Case in point we had announcements on Kirkuk in the past few days..
I don’t believe that GB is coming for a social call.
Can they make an announcement like this right before earnings? Aren’t we in a quiet period?
If this is true, then I will finally believe our leadership has the fortitude to do what is right for the future of our business instead of clinging to their precious past.
