Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What's the minimum number of people we can have?

If the goal is to reach the minimum number of people we can have and still manage to function properly, can we just go ahead and get there now? Just have one huge layoff round, get rid of everybody you want, and then let us go back to work without layoffs hanging over our heads 24/7. These incremental cuts are so much worse than anything.

How many, could be few. We are buying warehouses to build robots to run data centers.

their dream is AI agents curating medical data over a single Oracle DB and selling subscriptions to access it
so around 10 developers, 50 sales, 50 managers.

Ever hear how to minimize the amount of shampoo you need? Each time you shampoo you cut the amount in half till it's not enough, then you add a little more. Oracle won't know the minimum number till they have dropped below it and need to hire more.

Sad times. Thoughts with those still dealing with the political BS. Make no mistake, cuts wont cover the debt, talent and domain knowledge count... if you're talented, there's no shortage of opportunities in the market...believe in yourself...make the move.

@OP That's how I was thinking but I believe that would absolutely crash their stock price. Sounds like shareholders still have some say.

Boil it down and you’ll eventually find only one person, an artificial intelligence, and a bunch of assembly-line robots are all that is needed. Well, at least that’s what the CEO will end up believing.

@a5 Imagine surviving the RIF then getting told you'll be picking up extra work and yet again no compensation increase.

Then you're told that "you are lucky to still have a job".

That's really going to encourage the surviving folks to give their all, isn't it ?

@a4 Some already left on their own due to mean condescending manager. Despite that 4 or 5 managers left under him, high level manager protects him, do nothing about it. Time will tell if this time around the condescending manager will survive

@OP I was told this round is going to be HUGE! Also the ones not affected by the machete will have to pick up the pieces. For example, expect to do the work of 2-3 people. A business analyst I know is now expected to do the work of administrative assistants like manage department head count, produce power point slides, update spreadsheets, run the department town halls, manage department share point, update company approved corporate icons, welcome and prepare activities for interns, etc. His department used to have dedicated team of finance, operations, HR, etc. department activity celebrations like cinco de mayo, diwali, st patricks day, etc. etc. Whatever the Vice President does not want to do, it gets dumped to the business analyst.

This is exactly what they want you feeling and they anticipate that some will leave on their own. We need to stick together and hang in there.
