PayPal (2023): During his tenure as CEO of PayPal, Schulman announced a global workforce reduction in January 2023 affecting roughly 2,000 employees, or 7% of the company’s staff, citing a challenging macroeconomic environment and the need to right-size the cost structure.
Verizon (2025): Shortly after taking over as Verizon CEO in October 2025, Schulman announced the largest single round of layoffs in the company's history in November 2025, cutting over 13,000 jobs (roughly 13% of the workforce) as part of a sweeping operational restructuring. He also noted that routine customer service roles would continue to shrink due to artificial intelligence.
Verizon (2026): Layoffs continue as part of a $5 billion cost-saving and AI automation plan.
Nothing says employee financial wellness like losing your job, going on unemployment and maybe having to file for bankruptcy if you can't find another one.
And let's not forget when Dan said the quiet part out loud during an interview with the Wall Street Journal:

And love him or not, this prompted Bernie Sanders to say:
"When the CEO of Verizon predicts AI & robotics could lead to 20%-30% unemployment within the next few years, we may want to take notice."
Sanders added that society is economically and socially unprepared for the technology.
