I’m now 43 and still @ CL28…no promotion last 5yrs. Any chance I can make Exec? Is it worth the effort? If i get E/O next 10yrs, can i make it to Exec?

You should know the answer to this; mathematically, it is possible. As you get closer to the age of 50, it will be hard for you to find a job outside EM. You have time, but you need to plan for your future and make your own decisions on your path forward.
What’s the difference between CL30-31 and CL 32-33 ? Or are they more or less in the same category ?
For every CL-30+ executive in ExxonMobil that made it, there are 2000 tombstones in the cemetery of CL-28/29's that tried to be get to CL-30+ and failed.
That is a negative ghost rider.
Yes, but don’t do it!!! Don’t do it!!!!
I’m very curious to hear more on the 28to 29 bracket versus the exec bracket pros and cons. It’s gotta be a tough balance on performing well and being committed without doing too good of a job to remain in a 2829 bracket for the rest of your career.
One item that comes up in the calculus has to be the résumé padding that comes along with being an executive Exxon Mobil. That has to help with notoriety. Even if you failed that level in the company, you should be able to do well on the outside.
It’s definitely possible for you to reach executive but more likely not until the last couple roles in your career and assuming you’re on a management track. For most hipos the goal is to get to an executive level role by your mid 40s. You may still be a 29 but in an executive level role by this point. This is the right timeline for those who are in the 34Pot range. For those who are potential 36+ they will likely have achieved the executive role faster.
Be careful wishing to get promoted. Many promotions recently were simply to refill the NSI portion of the upper CL to keep a cushion between sponsored id--ts and the bottom of the rank group.
@OP Are you already in management ladder?
$279k and RSU.
@OP how much is your salary?
Making executive in a big company requires sponsors who can help pull you up the ladder.
Many exec roles are being downgraded, and there will be far fewer execs in the future. If you'd been in that scenario 10-20 years ago, you might have a shot back then. With so many competing for a shrinking number of roles, the odds are heavily stacked against you.
It’s not what you think it is…maybe slightly higher pay (bonus) but not worth it….you can thrive if you’re a psychopath or heavily sponsored.
@de yes. For more $.
Even if you can make executive do you really want to be part of the group responsible for offshoring jobs to India and ruining so many of the lives of your coworkers?
Not looking good. Also if you have flamed out already good luck making it to retirement. Many on this board seem to think they can still make it to retirement. I have seen the projections for US headcount. When you strip away the BTC expats it is a downward trend. A big reduction. How do you think they will get that? Why do you think they got rid of NRE? Why do you think they changed it from 3 PIP in 5 years to 2 PIP in 5 years being auto firing?
Too old. But good on you for making to to 28 by 38
@OP Yup. You and I both
not a chance at this point ... your CL is too low and your age is too high. Focus on other things as you will always be dissappointed. also, once promoted to exec, unless you are running a large organization, you will be CRUSHED in the exec rankings. better to be a well regarded CL28/29 .... I speak from experience.
@b5 think about all the LCMs, power managers, young, HiPos being assessed together. All if them probably have never been below O - now being forced to follow a distribution that includes NSI
@ag why is CL 30-34 brutal? Isn’t it the level just below VP in most divisions?
Honest question, honest answer. You can try but its too late already. Most hiPos are already doing exec potential roles which are CL 29 or 30.
Best to do good DH type roles or SPE and get to retirement till 55. If you save well and leave within your means, you will be fine.
CL30-34 is very brutal, not to say 28-29 isnt. You dont want to be in the 30-34 group unless you are heavily sponsored, which looks like you aren't.
Life is short, enjoy with your family and kids before they grow too much while you chase the $$s
Yes, but not worth it. It’s better to coast and retire peacefully at CL29.
@aa This is not a forum for people to gloat about their potential while people are losing their means of supporting their families. IMO, OP does have executive potential for being an insensitve ahole posting on this forum.
@a9 This is abusive and unnecessary.
@OP no one is interested in you, or your potential
You do have potential to loose some weight, try exercising and su-k a little less co-k
More info needed, recent rankings, potential cl, managerial role or IC........
Do you have an Executive potential? If not, then no.
Yes
