Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Huge RA across Europe this September?

There are rumours circulating about a huge RA across Europe this September due to the company's poor financial results. The RAs are expected to affect most business units. Does anyone have more information about this? Is it true?

@fe Stop the bullsh-t, IBM hires 6 in India for every engineers RA'ed of PIP'ed in US.
That is a fact.
The rate of retention for IBM India is dismal.
New hires don't last long, the jump ship as soon as a better offer is available. The cost is way more exorbitant than the "savings".
Alvind, the "slimy Indian" pockets the huge bonus and troubles are pushed down the road.

@q2 IBM is no longer an American company. But it’s still wearing that mask.

@fe I agree it has always been 1:1 replacement by India. IBM is trying to show a fake savings through labor arbitrage and a 4:1 ratio wouldn't allow that.

This tells you a lot about how many westerners have been laid off to build that massive 150k workforce in India. Between Europe and North America, 600k people have been eliminated over time. Remember that IBM basically a private equity firm that strip mines the companies it acquires and then lays off most of the staff.

With 600k let go IBM is a powerful engine of Unemployment in the West, gradually acquiring 150k Indians.

@Af. You are stretching the truth by a lot. IBM usually hires 1 for 1. Eg if they RA a person in NA, they only hire 1 person in India. Why do I say that? Because hiring in India is a cost savings exercise and total burden wages in India are approx 1/4 - 1/3 of what they are in NA. The same goes for Northern Europe.
So for every 100 dollars shed by IBM for RA’s IBM has to add 33 bucks to hire in India. The difference 66 dollars drops to the bottom line as cost reduction.
If we used your logic for every 100 dollars shed by RA’s IBM would add 6 employees x 33 dollars each = 198 dollars in cost, or an increase of 98 bucks. I don’t see the CFO signing off on that.
We can also play the numbers backwards. IBM India has approx 140k worth of employees. Using your logic that would say IBM RA’ed 23k worth of NA and Northern European employees if all were hired via an RA replacement. Does anyone really think IBM’s RA’s are limited to 23k? I think the number is closer to 100 - 120k which equates to a 1 for 1 RA vs hire equation

@dw Our direct managers are the true heroes! Always putting our best interests ahead of their own self-interest. We should all be grateful to them!

@a7 the rule of thumb is:
For every US based non Indian employee RA’ed or PIP’ed, six Indian monkeys are hired.

@a7 our managers and leaders are right. At least in US and Europe. We deserve what is coming

@OP The rumor is they're doing massive PIPs to set up paper trails to get rid of people in September. They've done this sporadically throughout the year, for example PES had some layoffs in July where they PIPed people out of the blue then let them off the PIP a week later then RA'd them a week later.

The most recent PIP wave started right after the Elite Human Capital CEO sc--wed the stock price by 25% in a single day.

Clearly, something must be done to recover his Izzat. Chaalaki demands he look like he's doing something, anything, to fix the problem, even if it's nonsensical, like switching from AI to Quantum computing, or firing people based on a spreadsheet (which is full of fake data thanks to the culture of his countrymen).

Chase those trends, Arvind! One day you'll find the magic buzzword spell that will jugaad IBM back into the greatness of 1975, at least long enough for you to loot the new fake not-a-401k retirement fund and flee back to the subcontinent.

When the AI bubble bursts in October, I suspect IBM is one of the first casualties.

@a6 I have not heard of this. Do you have any additional info?
