Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Collaboration

How’s is everyone’s team building, collaboration, and efficiencies improving with the anti-WFH initiatives in place while having half of your core working group in Pune?

@fs problem is that this is very short sighted. F grades in Pune already cost as much as in Sunbury. G grades will follow in few years.
Quality is pretty low and turnover high, plus they're in the wrong timezone. Not sure why we're doing this. Doesn't make any sense, unless you are planning to reduce the budget for the next 2 years, get a big bonus and ignore what happens after.

In my view the reduction in home working boils down to one or both of the below
1) Lack of trust and micro management
2) Governments encouraging (forcing??) companies to get employees out and about again to help the economy. It's no secret that you spend alot less working from home

Could be other things too

If your job can be done from home it can be done from Pune and Bangalore much cheaper.

If you think your technical role is going to survive the move to Timber Square think again.

Want to know the direction of the company - have a little look at the demographics in the Sunbury canteen at lunch time.

Let’s be really honest, it’s not collaboration they are trying to enhance, it’s the 2000 people who are at yoga classes, going for a run, popping out to do errands, watching their kids, cleaning their houses, driving to their cottages… while “working” that they are trying to fix.

@ab exactly. I don’t mind coming in office but to say it helps improve employee relations and work is stretching it. If they wanted to improve that, they wouldn’t be shedding so many jobs to time zones that conflict with one another. I’d rather have my crew in the same time zone so we can actually get $hit done.

@OP going to the office is becoming a box ticking exercise. People go Friday lunch time for an hour to make the dashboard look good.
Regarding the collaboration, part of it is gone with the 10% forced distribution. Why would you collaborate with your peers when 10% need to be allocated to the bottom bracket?
I don't mind going to the office, but it's absurd that they encourage us to go there to collaborate face to face and then I can only recruit in KL.

I love the haters who want to fully WFH. If you don’t like it, go find a job somewhere else that’s fully remote ( 🤣 I hear the job market is hot for people who want fully remote).

Actually, let’s just move your job to India or hungry, because you’re telling us someone can do your job from anywhere in the world.

@a9

Due to truth-in-labeling requirements, permanently change your name to A_Bootlicker, effective immediately.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

@a6

Dimwitted bootlicker.

Most everyone is aware that different jobs have different needs. Not you. Most everyone is aware that some jobs require physical presence, and other jobs do not. Not you.

From there, it's a very simple matter of realizing that the requirements of one job do not blanket apply to a list of other jobs. We all have the freedom to try for the job type we prefer.

Absolutely stunning that we have workers here that can't comprehend this basic principle. No wonder we are circling the drain...good job.

@a6 I agree with your comment. We don’t have room to complain about working in the office, and it does help with collaboration. But I also agree with the OP that the quality of work from the teams in India is not good. It’s contradictory to say people have to be in the office when we have teams in other time zones on the other side of the globe that don’t deliver quality work.

@a6 I mean honestly? Yeah. Working in WL1 you’re probably paid pretty well with minimal expectations. Do your job, show up 3/5 of the week, attend a few meetings. Was full-time WFH nice? Yeah. Is it gone? Also yeah. People who are complaining should go do some manual labor or teach for a while to get reacquainted with “real” work were you’re bone-tired at night and don’t have the option to WFH. Could work be better? Yeah. Could it be worse? Yes, much much so.

I love coming in 3 days a week. I hate the complainers who want to WFH all the time.

It is disgusting for a G+ level office worker in Houston getting paid $200K+ to complain. The real workers in BP at the refineries, gas stations, and production assets don’t WFH, and they get paid less. They have fixed hours, and if they need to leave early or show up late to pick up/drop off their kids from school? Too Bad.
