2027 benefits call

It’s a bad sign that they’re having a whole coffee chat about the cost of care. Who has the pool going for the cost increase for employee benefits for 2027?

@az You should always be suspicious when your new provider schedules your initial appointment for June 31st.

@a8 Yes, we're all getting a major pay cut next year via increased medical costs and lower quality care. So cool.

@a4 It's even worse when you consider how narrow the networks already are. They're not even narrow networks; they're ghost networks. At least 75% of the doctors in the directory either don't accept the insurance, don't specialize in the care needed, are in network at an old address or at a location at which they're credentialed, but actually office and bill out of locations that aren't, and on and on. If your PCP in [medical group] is approved, better believe it's going to take you hours and hours of phone calls and research to find a specialist in the same medical group that's actually considered in network - and you probably won't. Instead you'll have to make call after call to find a 1.7-rated doctor 30 miles away who is confirmed in network AND accepts the insurance.

And absolutely forget it if you need specialized care of any sort beyond setting a broken bone or getting a CT scan.

All this tells me is that they're going to expand their painfully bad EPO plan to the rest of the organization.

AND we're going to be paying more for it. Higher payroll deductions, higher deductibles, higher max out of pocket.

Marathon is a competitor to Apree. The end game is not to move more people to Marathon ‘just because’.

I tolerated about 30 seconds of this call and the lame PowerPoint talk tracks before hanging up. wtf. At least put some feeling into it.

@ad Agree. If you can, always get the “best” care, not the “cheapest” care possible. You all mean much more to your families than you do the company you work for. Your families deserve you to take care of your health. Most of your coworkers and definitely not C-suite executives nor Human Resources will come to your funeral. But your family will come.

@ad Yeah, my guess is that executives are getting full-body MRIs, which will catch the early beginnings of anything amiss. It is on like a 2k-3k procedure (without insurance) but for some reason unattainable for the rest of us “average” citizens.

Absolute waste of time and energy. The HR 'guy' is like nails on a chalkboard

@a9 I think they should consider hiring Broadway show actors and a director and make a complete thematic Broadway show out of it and include a popcorn machine. At least that way the employees would at least get a better show out of it

@a3 a stack of colored sticky pads on a completely empty desk. Could you be more creative in “staging”?
Are they going to give us back the 3.5% they took last January due to pay period structure?
Yes, but your premiums will increase significantly.

I really wish they wouldn’t package a financial hit to employees as corporate theater. Just level with us. The scripted, performative approach to delivering difficult news feels insincere, patronizing, and frankly, cringeworthy.

We’re going to give you more financial tools. How about a decent merit increase. With the hikes in health care costs and I can’t save any money, so what good is your financial “tools”. All the tools in the world won’t do anything if you can’t save any money. I had to reduce 401k contributions for healthcare.

Worst call ever. Never seen a more scripted call in a workplace. These "chats" are painful. Just tell us what's going with no need for a pretend conversation.

So we have to use Marathon Health or pay more?

This is so disheartening. The CoC feels like it more important than associates health. We want you to have options but also choose narrow to save. Go to your PCP but what about if you have a diagnosis and it becomes a problem visit instead of the annual one. Premiums vary by associate….so I wonder how those with more complex needs will compare to those who are healthier. Oh and also your salary stays the same despite cost of living and rising health care costs.

You know it’s bad when they are suggesting not to look at the numbers and choose a provider that has a narrow network. The discussion is so patronizing. Just be honest without the word salad: “ You are going to have to eat a big cost increase and we are giving you a heads up”

Ryan Craig's high pitched g-y tone is unbearable. He said premiums are going up lol. Lame

I agree. What I’m hearing between the lines. Costs are going up but we are going to give you tools.

If you’re sick & love your job please just don’t get care - it’s too expensive….. just say no to care
