Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

EISP Vs layoffs, I guess they like layoffs better?

Verizon promised Wall St 5 billion $ in savings this year. An EISP would be a pretty painless way to get a bunch of people off the books now rather than pay them four more years of salaries and benefits, as guaranteed per the contract extension. I guess the company would rather layoff even more people than do this?

@zz look thru that green book in your desk drawer. How many of those jobs titles are left?Soon mine too will be gone. As CWA does nothing to prevent vendors and non union workers from taking away jobs.Work from home techs are dead man walking. Heard Cary picked up more work.Theres no work or surplus they dont have to offer eisp. Nope they can transfer your a-s or lay you off.

@z8

Still has to be by the contract, as long as the order of alleviating surplus goes through the agreed upon procedure VZ can offer an EISP. To say that the union holding them to their agreement is "preventing" an offer is at a minimum a disingenuous claim. The whole purpose of the language is to make it very difficult to eliminate jobs at a whim. To those layoff proof it may not mean much, but it very much protects those hired after that contract.

@z8 since you bring this up, has anyone noticed they have been shifting circuit provisioning to “engineers” instead of Toll Assigners that used to do this work. Isn’t this bargained for work? How are they getting away with that? specifically iEN orders.

vz labor relations (a group of management employees) that handle hr and work planning has a" working relationship" with Union Leaders.
union may become involved when the issue concerns interpretation of the CBA, technological change, force adjustment.
So the Union ask hey why the eisp and the company response : we want to eliminate jobs due to technological change.The unions response:before you reduce these jobs, you have to follow the technological-change/force-adjustment provisions..so no EISP yet

Lots of nonsense spewed here. The contract language for offering EISPs was written many contracts ago. VZ does not require any permission to offer a EISP unless they wish to change the terms as they where originally agreed to like 20 some years ago. In that case they would need to negotiate what they intended as a change.

@ad I think you're going off on a tangent. Do you think that the union is aware of an upcoming EISP and not saying anything to the membership? More likely the company has not reached out to the union about an EISP and so the union knows nothing. Hence the OP's question about whether the company would rather shed employees via eisp or layoffs.
