Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford reveals name, pricing of upcoming electric midsize truck…

I cannot fathom why anyone would think Fathom is a name that will sell a vehicle.
It’s a 🤡 show.

I wonder if it will have those sonar submarine pings like in old war movies as like a running indicator. Maybe that will be the backup / front bumper camera sound? Ooh, patent that, brothers! Per Red October: "Engage the silent drive!"

Well, I'm sure marketing sc--wed it up again, probably only fits 1 fat person in the back seat and comes with no cupholders.

They could borrow from German and call it the Ford Fahrt.

@1rw

Hehehe..

No one has any "F's" left to give anyway. Seems to fit.

@OP After they reach the end of the "F"s to name Fords the last F word will be appropriate.

@k2 Ah yes, a banshee, harbinger of death, there are a few of these at Ford. I had an encounter and it was the end.

@jw I think it would've been fitting for what these people did. I was hoping they did it. They better make the next car called Banshee

@OP

Doesn't really matter what they call it. Are we really concerned with that?

Ah the “leaders” likely know the name rots as they have an external job posting (LL6) for the global “Center of Excellence for naming and taxonomy.” The job listing says, the Center manages everything within Ford that needs a name. That could be things like vehicles, services, apps, or internal things like initiatives, division names etc. The listing wants 6 or more years of working experience.

But seriously quit wasting money on stupidity. Give the truck a # and a letter or two and call it good. I.e. F150H (hybrid) F150E (electric) F150D (diesel) F150G (gas) etc. F100 smaller truck. F050 mini truck.

As for internal names NO-ONE GIVES A RAT. Have a global document system that all employees have access to, require each internal project/initiative/department be registered in the system. Registration assigns a computer generated unique identifier that everyone can look up and know exactly what it is. All the management fools wasting months in offsite meetings trying to come up with a clever name for an initiative that will most likely flop is insane. Inevitably they are reusing acronyms that are already in use for something else resulting in confusion. Oh as a bonus BCG would have a single point to read about all the ways Ford is wasting money, instead of having a curated view point provided by “leadership”. LOL

Seems that F always comes up with a "F" name. Won't be much longer and they will be left with the four letter word.

@b8 I can understand the concept of dung without eating it. Duh! A POS is a POS. It's a FORD!

This can’t be a real name. Fathom is actually, Fat- Hom. Ridiculous. Come on can’t they think of a better name.

Great name, great product. This truck is a game changer. A true Model T moment with chops from Model e.

Ignore the negativity here, this truck will sell.

Is there any proof names factor into customer decisions?

So many cars have odd model names? Does it matter?

I’ll predict that Farley will announce 600,000 preorders, none of which will actually become purchases.
