Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Stay Calm & Stay Prepared

If there are rumors that layoffs may happen on September 2nd, they may happen that day, but the timing could also be different, such as August 31st or September 1st. We saw a similar situation last year. Unfortunately, there are some things we simply cannot control.

If you’re concerned about your position, make sure your work and contributions are visible. Touch base with your VP, communicate what you’ve been working on, share your accomplishments, discuss any concerns, and ask where you can take on additional work. During a restructuring, decisions can be difficult and sometimes are outside your manager’s control, so make sure your contributions are known at the leadership level.

If you suddenly receive a 1:1 meeting invitation or an early morning email, try not to panic. Take a breath and focus on the practical steps. If you are affected, understand your WARN period, severance, benefits, and healthcare options. If applicable, plan ahead for Covered California coverage when your employer coverage ends. Verify the exact dates and benefits with HR before making any decisions.

Most importantly, don’t let the uncertainty consume you or affect your family. Keep your routine: log in and do your work, continue applying for jobs with an updated resume, learn something new, exercise or take a walk, spend time with your family, have dinner, and watch a movie. Keeping a normal routine can help you stay grounded.

Blaming your manager, director, or Oracle may feel natural, but it won’t change the outcome and will only drain your energy. If a layoff happens, focus on what you can control: understand your severance and benefits, arrange healthcare coverage, update your resume, build new skills, take courses, network, and start interviewing.

You will find another opportunity. It may take some time, but keep moving forward. And if you genuinely want to return to Oracle someday, that option may still be there.

There are things we cannot control. Organizational decisions don’t define our value or our careers. A layoff is an event, not a reflection of your worth or abilities.

Take care of yourself, protect your mental health, and take it one day at a time. You’ll get through this. ❤️

Make sure that if you have anything personal on your laptop, that it is moved off. You will lose access. Sometimes before the 1:1 call.

I didn't see anything in the original list
about staying prepared, suggesting that everyone prepare their butt cheeks along with everything else.

@az I fear this is true. The lists are made by higher ups and HR, If your VP tried to save you that was already attempted, and to be honest I have my doubts that anyone can be moved off the list, as crucial people were let go in previous RIFs.

@bm So what's wrong? Aren't they asking us to use Ai to analyze and write? So the writer is doing exactly what they are asking USE AI.

lol lol some one said - Touch base with your VP, communicate what you’ve been working on, share your accomplishments, discuss any concerns, and ask where you can take on additional work.

come on COME ON !! if you are of a certain age you may be gone regardless - and combine with certain pay - even if you are high performer - ain t gonna matter - but end the end . We the worker bees have no control - so look at it as "Freedom" a "Release"

If Oracle has taught us anything its to "Plan " so even now before rumored layoffs hit
do some planning even writing 1 thing down .

suggest taking 1/2 severance or more and putting in high yield savings that is accessible like etrade or similar

Take time to decompress - create /develop a plan (action ) during that time - take walks - and move your bodies as sometimes we just move our minds

ok enough "yoda isms" for now - all the best to all at the "Big O " and you are not your job - YOU ARE BETTER !!

@bp You can take it with a grain of salt and certainly don’t have to believe everything, as we don’t know 100% what criteria or methodology leadership uses to create the list. Even M4s and M5s don’t always know the exact process. What we’ve shared in the earlier posts is based solely on our observations and should not be taken as definitive. At the end of the day, there are better opportunities and a better life beyond this.

@bm Yes, AI was used for sentence correction, but the content is 100% genuine. BTW, the pattern we ‘observed’ last year was broadly as follows:

  • M2-M5 with 20+ years who were not actively using AI or contributing to AI initiatives
  • Low-performing IC4-C5

Also heard that the following factors may have been considered, but not certain:

  • Highly vested RSU M3 - M5
  • Higher-salaried M3 - M5

I want to get on the list, any suggestions? I report to a M5 India, who reports to a M5 American who reports to M6 American, and so on. Pre Sales. Should I reach out to MS American and say hey... My understanding last round he did not have notification either until night before (who was on the list). I am ready to go!

@az Yes, but I’d recommend speaking with your VP in advance. Even a last-minute conversation can be helpful, as they have the authority to make changes to the list, and they may select someone else from the ranked list. I wouldn’t rely solely on your immediate boss. Once you’re out, it can be much more difficult to get anyone’s attention or have your request reviewed.

Regardless of the layoff situation, keep your resume updated and continue attending interviews so you’re prepared for any opportunity that comes your way.

@b1 I'd say that's the best advice.

You are not responsible for the mess they created, just apply outside while you are in Oracle. You can negotiate better salary with your next company while you have a job now.

And if you would like someone to hold your hand and give you a hug, we will gladly do so as we escort you off of the premises.

It's pointless to "Touch base with your VP", the lists are final. The best thing you can do is update your resume.
