Health Insurance in case of layoffs

Hi All
I am also waiting like many on decision about whether i will stay or be axed which will be decided in the next few weeks. My question is that in case i loose my job, will I be able to maintain my health insurance for the next 6 months post layoff or would the Health insurance also go away immediately. What happens if you are in middle of a medical procedure.. Does anyone have any idea on health insurance intricacies. I am working in the Dublin office.

@bp But why would you cancel your cover unless they deduct the premium cost from your severence. Do we have to pay the premium in case of layoff?

I was made redundant within the last few years and you get a choice to keep the cover for 6 months or cancel it off

In the US, it's stated that PayPal covers Cobra costs for an additional 6 months beyond the set termination date, which in my case at least, is 60 days after the call and losing access, etc. I believe it's the same for all US employees. So 60 days on payroll with health insurance as usual, plus 6 months of subsidized Cobra, plus you may pay for an additional 12 months beyond that, but it's up to you.
