Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

EVPs and SVPs being hired as remote employees

There’s been talk about EVPs and SVPs being hired as remote employees in cities other than NYC and LA. I don't know which teams. What’s up with that?

People in NYC and LA were told to be in the office and that they can’t hire remote employees, yet some EVPs and SVPs are apparently being hired as remote employees.

Is this really happening?

The company would run same or better with 1/3 the current vps and directors. There are some good ones but they are rare.

HR is accepting bribes from senior executives to “look the other way”

@jg yeah problem for paramount is if they wanna mandate 5 days RTO they can't pay the same remote rates they're paying. i left the company 6 months ago and when i left, i was told that my new job was paying more than what someone 2 levels above me at paramount would have been making.

and this is for a 3 days in office role, with no strict badging hours.

Many people are unhappy. We lost good people this year to other companies that offered remote and hybrid roles, yet we keep hearing about how we’re hiring people in random locations while many teams can’t hire remotely.

It honestly feels like we’re talking about multiple different companies here and not one Paramount.

Isn’t the whole argument that we need to be able to hire 10x people remotely? Like, someone who’s going to build a revolutionary AI tool for Paramount, a 10x marketing/engineering/design person, or someone who’s going to quadruple the value of the company. Basically, superstars.

So I assume the newly hired directors, VPs, SVPs etc who got RTO exceptions are those kinds of superstars?

@h5 You needed and need to push back on your manager. Question why all these other teams can. I have hired people NOT in LA and NYC

@gt I was hiring this year, and I couldn’t hire anyone who wouldn’t be in the office five days a week.

@fq That's today, but the merger will go through sooner rather than later. WBD has over 400 people in Seattle. Not to mention, Paramount has over 100 people in Seattle today. The official communication is 2024 old news. Paramount know RTO phase 1 was an epic failure and we are hiring. outside of LA and NYC and have been for well over a year. This is especially prevalent in streaming since Dane joined and wants the best talent, not talent sitting in an office to sit in an office.

While there is bluster about moving out of California, it's still possible they might open a small office in certain spots for a handful of hard to get people. Maybe a we work style place? But yeah, I know people are being hired fully remote. I assume it's because we have an incompetent HR system.

@fj It’s not a Paramount office. I doubt WBD would let Paramount employees start moving into their offices at this point. Plus, the official communication was that there would be no hiring outside NYC and LA.

My first thought when that email was sent yesterday, “we have an office in Seattle?”
It’s the worst kept secret that many in the company don’t come into the office. They are hiring remote employees too. It was done to layoff workers. That’s it.

Entire chunks of the company who were local to offices had their teams and responsibilities given to people who live nowhere near an office even though they were very open about the fact they wouldn't relocate.

There have always been special cases depending who you are, who you know, what your title is.

Does this mean we can hire again across the country? I was told we couldn’t hire people who want to work remotely.

Of course it’s happening...

Getting an RTO exception depends a lot on who you’re having lunch with or grabbing after-work drinks with

Oh please even some low level employees (think of coordinators/operators) are fully remote.

I'm in streaming.

It’s all about who you know. That’s how things work. If you have somebody high enough up, you can get an exception to work from Antarctica if you want.
