I’m starting to see a lot of folks taking a leave of absence. It’s all woman and some in high positions. What’s going on?
I can believe some want more family time but wouldn’t surprise me if they are trying to avoid an assessment cycle while still keeping their insurance and RSUs. I know 4 woman in finance leaving or have left before October 1 cutoff for assessments.
Sometimes people use it to escape a toxic boss that won’t let them leave their group. Leave of absence until their position is backfilled and then come back to wherever they were being blocked from going.
The resigned but convinced to go on a leave of absence instead also happens. Tends not to work out for that person when they come back, whatever drove the original decision to resign is still there and they resign for real the second time. In all cases, seems best to attempt to switch groups after LOA.
@gc You weren’t worried about fairness when they took away the NRE bridge. Now that older employees can’t safely absorb the bottom slots for you and are making decisions in their own best interests, suddenly it’s “not fair”? You were laughing when our safety net disappeared. Not so funny when yours disappears as well, is it?
@d0 because with these cowards taking LOA and hiding exposing regular innocent folks that will become meat fodder due to simple lack of older material to PIP.
So let me explain in to you in a plain language…. This scheme with women taking LOA redirects PIP g-n at younger set of folks who are actually performing well in their jobs and work hard, however simply because PIP quota needs to be met - these young folks are in the scope now.
So you need to change your perception and stop being selfish pr--k.
Is the LOA strategy mainly works for female population or male population also can qualify for one ??? I’d love to FAFO
Most gave resignations but were convinced to apply for leave of absence just in case they regretted their departure, so can come back in 6 months very easily.
So what? If someone qualifies for a leave of absence why is that any of your business? And if someone is close to retirement, or another major financial milestone, why on earth would you expect them to voluntarily leave money on the table just to satisfy your idea of what’s “fair”? If they walk away from money, you don’t get it. Your RSUs don’t magically increase. Your retirement doesn’t get bigger. You don’t get a special bonus for being the office Leave-of-Absence Hall Monitor. People have spent years earning their benefits. They’re allowed to make decisions that are best for themselves and their families within the rules. I highly recommend you just mind your own business.
Anyone considering this path needs to understand that there is absolutely no guarantee that they will take you back when you want to return. You may be in good standing today but who knows who you will be working with when you want to come back.
Inquiring minds want to know... how long can one play this game?
They’re probably tired of being taken advantage of and lied to. This dysfunctional system will only work until it doesn’t.

I am seeing the same thing as well and had a supervisor suggest it to me too.
Some of the women I have seen don’t come back after the LOA.
Anyone know what happened to the husband of the current VP of brownfield projects? He’s got a drilling background and apparently worked for the company but is no longer with them.
