Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

@da Or actually have to show up to the office 4-5 days a week. These people that think WFH is a right need a reality check. Everyone knows working from home is less productive than actually coming in to the office since they spend their time running errands, working in the yard or chauffeuring the kids around.

@ax If you still have 10 years left in your career, it’s better to leave now. Companies will give you better opportunities and the benefits and pay will come. If you stay you’ll most likely get caught in the layoffs and will be harder to find jobs when you’re older. Make the jump now and you’ll be happier in the long run.

I'm impressed that the OP can hang out at the layoff site of the beloved company which taught him everything he knows and is responsible for everything he is today for so long, while being employed by such an alleged utopian company which has him living in wealth and riches(lmao). And also reply to his own posts attempting to make himself seem relevant to others who don't care.

One can get so lost and stuck in the CVX internal mindset that you dont realize how important it is to look outside and see if what the execs and HR are saying actually match the reality in other sectors--which nowadays, more often than not is better than what CVX is providing.

OP, No one is shell struck with a blank stare or didn't know what we were getting into with a major. Is this your first or second big-boy job at this point? We all know full well that we can leave any time we want, or stick it out. Maybe that's the difference. Go preach your crab in a bucket mentality story to someone else who actually cares.

Hey guys, I’m fine with being downvoted to oblivion, seems to happen when the outsiders come in!

I left a year ago and come back from time to time because after 10+ yrs there, I care about Chevron and my friends over there, and remain interested in what’s happening.

Not looking to be a di-k, but most folks that I interact with who have stuck it out seems pretty unhappy and seem to have a kind of 1000yd stare like they’ve just gotten a break in an artillery shelling. I have tried to genuinely share my experience, that leaving for me has been a fantastic life giving move, and as someone who was scared to do so for a long time, I want to encourage others to consider it too if that’s right for them. No gloating, but for me, it’s been a good experience.

@da yeah which is maybe what some people want and thats why they leave a place where any sort of effort is seen as competition. Again easy to just coast and collect a paycheck, but he-l of an unsatisfying life. Like others said, to each their own.

Hello everyone - got laid off last year and just decided to troll my previous employer and pretend like I got a better job. That is obvious because if I had the dream job I pretend to have and were completely satisfied and content, I wouldn't be here moaning and pretending like I am happy and gloating. But make-believe is so much more fun than being laid off with no prospects because I really am a hopeless pathetic loser. Thanks for reading!

@ak a one time bonus is not sustainable. There’s much more with a future company that is external. Account for the benefits you’ll accumulate, the collaborative environment and treating people with respect that awaits you outside. What is that worth to you?

What about the mid-career PSG24+ with 4 or 5 weeks vacation, with families and responsibilities?

@ae took the package last year when i was told I was too ambitious in the roles I was applying to/needed to "wait my turn" for a leadership level position. Hoped over to big tech and make more than I did at CVX with more vacation, bigger benefits, remote work and better work/life balance.

Based on the answers, seems like people are resentful/jealous. Will just add my 2 cents, left after 12+ years and also came up on a one year anniversary last month. It really is very refreshing to see and work in a place that doesnt drain you and actually rewards initiative and hard work. Also, all the chatter about Chevron has the best benefits and pays so much more than others turned out to be a smokescreen, there is a better life out there.

I’m suprised they even hire pole dancers with 17+ years at CVX. You must be on lunch shift.
