in the layoff last year. my dept had 60% cut based on salary so all the 5 and 4s were cut , architects and directors and lead engineers. they kept all the people with the lowest salaries , this was a org of a 240 people.
To some extent this is true, but having gone through a lot of these, there is a lot of cutting of whole projects, where entire swaths are let go regardless of performance. I have a feeling that HR prefers these because then no one involved can claim discrimination based on age or other factors, nor of a disagreement on performance.
@f6 The layoff package included a list of each job role and the number of people let go, broken down by age. At all job role levels, the average age of people (a proxy for compensation) leaned toward the high side; this was a salary dump, pure and simple, regardless of performance ratings.
When you're a number on a spreadsheet, performance doesn't matter. If your number gets picked, you get sent packing.
I was let go in the 3/31 round and I have never had anything but exceeds expectations reviews. I was with company for 29 years.
@dk it's not bullsh-t. Everyone knows those lacking brain cells are pushed first.
@dx defensive much? It's not my fault if you're bad or lazy at your job, and now you're concerned that you're going to be living off food stamps.
If you actually are an Oracle employee I sincerely hope you get laid off in this next round. Bet you will be signing a different tune after that. Until then please STFU because you don’t know what you are talking about.
Stop spreading this bullsh-t. It is very harmful and untrue.
Lies.
@OP One of the previous RIFs, earlier this year, I know a vice president who was let go. His dismissal was NOT performance related. I'd known this guy for quite a while, and he was smart and good at what he did and a great manager (I worked for him at one point). I was reporting to a vice president when I was let go who I think is fantastic, and I'm a bit worried about him.
They're going after salary - and AI use, I guess - more than performance when they're cutting people.
@a8 Top performers being let go in previous RIFs happened a lot.
No one is safe,
This is just false. There are many super high level performers rhat will be in the mix. If your actually being let go at Oracle for performance it's a rare instance. Decisions are political and self preservation motivated. True performance evaluation based on contribution is a total farse.
Cutting the bottom 10% when you have already cut tbe bottom 60% from January, and are down to about 20% of who you had this time last year (before the Aug 2025 cuts) is a big deal.
